battery stupidity
I want to be very clear---this rant is aimed at porsche NA not my local dealer. I own a 09 turbo cab that i bought last march. as part of the purchase agreement the dealer installed a new battery. as i live in the great white north(MN) i removed the battery for the winter. My mistake was not attaching the battery to a charger immediately. after tests at batteries plus and my dealer it has been determined that the battery is toast and has to be replaced. This is one month past the 1y replace the battery date and now it is pro rated. In order for the dealer to warranty the battery a test must be done to the car. I can't do anything with the car since the dead battery is at the dealer. they have offered to supply me with a loaner battery or have my car towed on a flat bed to the dealer for the necessary test. how lame is this? the battery is toast---give me a new battery less the pro rated cost. nope we have to tow my car to the dealer for a vehicle analysis test. I believe we all pay enough for these vehicles and the warranties that i should be able to get a new battery and move on. Nope, now i have to deal with the weather and other uncertainties to get my car serviced-- i just can't drop it off because it might snow and then my car will be left outside in the back lot waiting for the weather to clear so i can come and get it. I apologize for ranting but i am a bit disappointed. i again want to be clear that the local dealer is being super helpful, but they have to deal with PCNA policies.

It's a real PITA lesson to learn about batteries unfortunately! Once they go dead they're toast so it's critical to keep them on a trickle charger if they're not going to be used for any more than a few weeks. I learned a similar lesson the hard way when the alternator on my Turbo blew and I tried to make it home on just the battery. These cars have big batteries for a reason. I only made it a few miles on the battery before the car used up the entire charge and the battery was useless and required replacement. It was a brand new battery too.....

Wait a minute, you screwed up and are ranting about what Porsche does. FYI they won't warranty the battery if you don't average 500 miles a month on the car. I went through the miles thing and not getting my CPO car battery prorated. Just went to Sears and bought a new battery and installed it myself without having to bring it to the dealer, best $125 I spent avoiding the dealer and a tow. They want the car there so they can check the miles and make sure there is not a problem with your charging system.
