Pushing stock fuel pumps on E85 with COBB Tuning

If you haven't read my article about the COBB tune on my modified 997, you can find it here:

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ls-inside.html

I wanted to make the switch to E85 and finally did.

COBB supplied me with a set of their 1000cc injectors. BBI also sold me a set of their cat delete pipes for the BBI Barcode exhaust!

Not looking for power, my goal was to run e85 and avoid the high price of 100 octane, while reaping the benefits of the cooler charge.

Putting on the dyno, the initial numbers showed a gain of 50hp and 50tq at the same boost level. Mitch made some final adjustments and we settled on a happy medium. We also had some issues with the dyno, so we cut a few of the runs short. I also didn't get a copy of the dyno sheet, but I saw the difference on the curve on the big power run before it was detuned a hair.

Final numbers were 714awhp and 696tq at 18-18.5psi
Previous numbers were 701awhp and 680tq

Note that my turbos are out of breath, but I was given the option to put the power back up around 740/710 and declined due to potential clutch issues as I'm well over 800 crank.

Regarding the fuel pumps... even at this power level, Mitch was still pulling fuel from the car. We had room to go if I had a beefier clutch and a turbo that could flow more. Alpha's would probably yield 750+ on E85 before hitting a wall on the pumps (just my theory), but they may do 800+ wheel. I suppose we'll find out sooner or later.

TL;DR

-Cobb's 1000cc injectors are awesome
-E85 + Cobb's injectors are good for 850+* crank on stock fuel pumps
-Brought to you by Cobb Tuning and Cobb Access Port
-BBI's Barcode exhaust + cat deletes sounds AMAZING

*subjective to dyno output

Do you need to drop the motor for injectors? Or is it enough to lower it only?

Todd at protomotive told me that the engine needs to be dropped to access the injectors

This diy indicates dropping just a few cm is enough:

She's still up for sale.

As far as injectors, depends on your inlet pipes, too. If you have larger diameter inlets, they'll rest against the injector and make it very difficult. Easy to lower the motor a bit and/or drop it all together.

Todd prefers to drop the motor completely, but I've seen shops just lower it a few inches to do the injectors. Either way works perfectly fine.

Very nice numbers. Interesting that the pumps have more in them with 1000cc injectors. I have Todd's 80# and we're out of fuel. I thought it was the pumps, but if its just the injectors, I might have to change to the 1000s and see what that opens up for me.

I have some logs I will post up when all of the Puerto Rico madness is over.

It was super interesting to see and was a great test. Glad we were able to verify that the fuel system seems to be pretty stout. ( With upgraded injectors)

Yeah I'm kind of kicking myself for going with the 80# injectors now too. Tony has the ID1000s...
