New Kline Exhaust Installed Today
#16
kwiksilver,
I live in Atlanta and just picked up a 997tt. I am beginning my research into exhausts and the Kline seems to have many good points. I might be asking a lot here, but could I have a test listen? I'm more than happy to come up to you or if you come into the city often I could meet you at a location of your choosing.
Please PM if you are open to this and we can swap numbers and sort out a location.

Lol nope as a forum member I use others experience to help with my decisions and since I am fortunate to have a Kline and know what it sounds like I would want others who are considering to know what it sounds like vs YouTube videos

I received my slightly used Kline last week and will have it installed this week, I'll give my opinion after the install. I don't want super loud and am thinking the Kline will be a perfect fit for me.
I have the Softronic ECU flash and I am not expecting big HP gains with the exhaust, just a nice roar during my spirited runs.
I'll chime in after the install.

I just wanted to thank kwiksilver. He was kind enough to take me on a test listen. To report back. The Kline is very close to the OEM in volume, particularly at low RMPs. It get quite a bit more aggressive as the RPMs climb, but never overly so. It's not a "hey look at me exhaust". I did not notice any drone. From what I could see it was very well made. IMO it's a nice bump from the OEM exhaust for those who do not want to disturb their neighbors. My one grip is that you can see the bottom of the mufflers when standing about 30ft way (see the pic below, not kwiksliver's car)
I'm sure the decatted version is significantly louder, but the cat version is still very nice bump from OEM.

just a quick shout to sam at by design. had that sucker waiting for me on a sunday morning so i could install it quickly and test it on the neighbors. it's awesome sounding, a bit more "guttural" than OEM and yet it purrs at idle, although we get the richer burble at cold startup for the richer mixture. as it warms it settles into a great unobtrusive yet clearly modded exhaust gurgle.
burble, gurgle, whatever it sounds great! yet, might indeed be quiet for some. but not those tending toward a more *civilized* exhaust note. it suited my needs perfectly as i didn't wan't "hey look at me, unless i'm WOT then who cares!?.
over 3k? @wot? it HOWLS. but at 3k cruising, it has a *bit* more resonance ( which i suppose is a more genteel definition of *drone* ) but i think a bit more cabin more resonance over stock is to be expected. it doesn't DRONE at all.
all in all, hard to imagine a better exhaust on a mezger motor. again, a big up to sam ahdoot@bydesign. thanks man....

Most all of the Porsche Turbo systems hang down a bit. it's because the factory uses a almost square shape. Most aftermarket systems use round or in this case oval for best tone tuning. Nice and shiny!
I think the main comparison to factory tends to lean towards the drone. it's a fine line. Remember if anyone feels it's quiet we will try catless or 100 CEL. Best of both worlds for daily driving and hitting boost to unleash the beast.
Cheers
