Thinking of trading my 991 C2S for 997.1 Turbo

The local dealer just took a car on trade and I'm very interested in it, hoping you guys can tell me what to look for and tell me if this is a stupid thing for me to do.

My car:
2013 C2S - Platinum Silver - LTS interior, PDCC, s-PASM, sport chrono, manual, Burmester, premium plus package, adaptive sport plus seating, cpo warranty until mid 2017. 25000 miles as of today.

the 997:
2007 Turbo - GT Silver, PCCB, tiptronic, sport chrono, black/terracotta bicolor interior, heated seats, parking assist. 34000 miles. $69,900 sticker.

What do I look for in this car? Is this a massive downgrade in every way? Am I blinded by the fact that it's faster and has the mezger engine?

Since you're asking the people of 997TT, I think you will get some bias information (me included). When I was in the market for 997TT, I also included the 997GT3 and 997GTS but 991 just too big for my taste. If you don't mind the TIP and red interior, that silver car has everything I would want in turbo. PCCB, Adaptive seats, chrono but I wouldn't get a TIP (nothing wrong with TIP but I rather have MT). I would rather get 997.2TTS if you want automatic turbo.

if it will be a daily driver your coming from a Buremester highly developed enfotainment system to a very basic non Bluetooth system......not the easiest thing to upgrade, can be done but bit of a chore and can loose some of the onboard computer options. Tip is very different to the PDK, if you were looking at a manual version would be a different conversation. Drive them back to back and see...PCCB are an expensive maintainance option...

My opinion is no.

Yikes on the tiptronic, otherwise options are good and really about personal taste. As already said, keep a sizeable sum of money in the bank for any PCCB replacements/repairs.

Is the lifespan of pccb rotors not that long? They've been advertised to me as maintenance free except for occasional pads.

Um, No. Not a chance with the TIP. I test drove a lot of cars and still like the 991S quite a bit. I chose the 997tt over it but both are great cars.

You have a manual now so why go to a 5 speed tiptronic?
If you want the power of the 997 turbo why not go for the manual?

PCCB: If no track duty rotors are lifetime and pads last forever. Zero cost
Tracking and the back ones go fast. Better to keep them in a box and switch to iron.

If this is your DD, I would not do it. If this is your weekend car or extra car, maybe.
The TIP would not be an issue, depending on your needs.

I have owned TIPs and MT Pcars and I buy them depending on the needs.

If you have a 991, I would keep it.

To me the 997 turbo is incredibly undervalued...it's a ton of machine for the money!

Thanks for all the responses, I think I am going to pass based on what I'm reading. I was ready to jump simply because it checked 3/4 boxes (sport chrono, sport plus seating, PCCB, and manual being the four) but that fourth box is a big one.

I really wouldn't mind a 997.2 PDK but the price jumps exponentially and at that point I'd rather a GT4.

For me the lack of a either a manual or a PDK would have me off that car fast.

I have owned:

03 996 cab
09 C2S coupe
07 997tt
13 991 C2S coupe
13 991 C4S cab
09 997tt

First off, if your C2S is PDK, the Tiptronic is a huuuuge let down. The 997tt has enough torque so it isn't a big deal, but it's nowhere near as responsive or crisp as PDK. In a straight line, with the pedal down, it's fine, but especially in the twisties, I talked myself out of a Tiptronic turbo really quickly.

Beyond that, the 997TT is a really good car. It's much more cramped feeling than the 991, the shoulder room and hip room especially, feels a lot less than the 991. The actual driving position is not as good, the ergos on the 991 are better for taller folks. For those under 5'6", I don't think it matters that much. The sound system on the 997 sounds fine but the inputs are atrocious - no bluetooth streaming at all, no BT phone integration, and the navigation in the PCM 2.1 generation is really bad.

The 991 feels lighter (it is) and bigger (it is) so it's more responsive but harder to place in a corner. The 997tt does the butt wiggle on turn in, so you gotta get used to that - it's a much heavier car, especially the tip, but it carries it's weight pretty far back, so you get a pendulum effect, that is much more pronounced on the 997tt than the 991. I have done suspension, so it gets rid of most of that.

Looks wise, the turbo looks like something special, imho, especially from the rear quarter view, where you can take in the hips better. Plus, you default to full leather, which is fairly rare on C2Ss. All the 991 S cars came with PTV which meant you got the LSD - it's an option (and a somewhat rare one, especially with tiptronic) on the 997tt.

I think the tiptronic tt is priced pretty high, manuals command a premium. I think the asking price is splitting the difference between a manual and a tiptronic value.

I'd very carefully inspect the PCCBs, they're fairly robust in normal usage but incredibly expensive if something goes wrong. Since it's a tip, no worries about overrevs.
