997 Turbo - Weird throttle action
Hey everyone!
I have a 2008 911 Turbo. Today when I did a launch, i had some weird activity occur. I do not do launches often just to preserve the vehicle but today was the first time this happened. So when the vehicle reached around 5000 rpm, it felt sluggish and it sounded sluggish. It acted and sounded similar to someone putting the wrong gas in the vehicle. I assure you, I only put premium. After this, I let up and threw the clutch back in as any of us would. And the check engine light for "emission control" came on. I pulled over and shut her down and restarted the vehicle and everything was fine. It drove fine and normal afterwards, and no check engine light. However, this weird activty only occurs when i push the vehicle above 5000 RPM.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

62k. Factory tuned.
I'm leaning towards the problem being connected to the turbo. Or some kind of misfire. I am also thinking the fuel injectors might be bad. What do you think?

Could be a number of things...
Would be nice to have the error code(s) associated with the CEL. I would however hazard a guess they are misfire error codes.
My thinking is a 2008 Turbo with 62K miles... Are the plugs original? And while you live/drive in a relatively dry locale I note that high ambient temperatures are very common (understatement) where you are and coils can suffer from this too.
Also, I note you mentioned you avoid launches to "preserve the vehicle" which is ok but if the engine never gets used at the higher RPMs -- or very seldom -- and for long periods of time deposits can form which can interfere with the proper combustion and this can lead to the behavior you observed/experienced.
If you are not capable of it you need to have the engine checked for a mechanical problem -- like as 9e 28 offered up a seized tubro actuator rod -- but if nothing is found consider new plugs and coils.
And possibly even a treatment or two of Techron. Use according to directions on the bottle.
The general advice regarding the use of Techron is use a bottle. If you notice an improvement then repeat the treatment.
Even though I seldom use Techron additive to a tank of fuel -- I found just running Chevron gasoline on a regular basis effects an improvement in engine performance, at least with my Boxster -- when I do I like to change the oil/filter after the last tank of fuel with Techron added is all used up.

A mild sort of flatness can be possibly due to engine deposits maybe exacrebated by plugs past their change by miles, possibly along with coils that have reached their service life end.
If the flatness is not that mild this can point to more serious problems. With a turbo-charged engine there is a lot more that must happen and correctly for the engine to deliver its maximum output and do so without any untoward behavior.
The best person to diagnose the behavior and advise you would be an experienced Porsche tech who experiences this behavior during a road test.
I'm sure he can distinguish between something due to engine deposits, plugs, coils, or something else.
