997.2 takes on Slipstream 1/2 mile invitational
#17
I think the PDK/launch control unit helps a lot, but with street tires yeah it would be tough to do that with under a 140 trap. With DR's on the 997.2 it's been done (9's) a couple times but only once from what I understand on the factory stock turbos.

Couldnt wipe the smile off your face Adam, glad you had fun. Really wish you were there for saturday, it got a lot warmer and definitely more dry lol.
We pulled all the runs from both days off the system and compiling a list right now.
The cool part is we can see the 1/4 mile results in these runs as well.. of course its not dragstrip prep and the 60' will show it. GTRs and a few big tire RWD were sub 2.0, but i bet you were 2.1-2.3 60'

Great recap Adam! Can't wait for July and shorts weather
For everyone interested, here are many more pictures from the event. I have over 1000 that I need to load to our website over the weekend.

I don't know if anyone has been keeping track of 1/2 mile records, because this is all still pretty new. There is really no method of comparison except the vBox. Shift Sector gets pretty close with their timing equipment and sounds like Slipstream now does as well. But other places have been all over the place so comparisons thus far have been meaningless.
I can tell you this, with my past set up (GIAC/Champion bolt on 9 second package) which is exactly what TightTT has now, the best I could do on the vBox 1/2 mile at Shift Sector was 165's. Assuming Slipstream is close to vBox numbers (which I saw another post that it was), then TightTT's car is an absolute ringer. And I would say pretty confidently that this is a record for the 3.8 DI platform on stock turbos.
Looks like the DA there on Friday was pretty good which might account for some of the delta against my car. But just goes to show what your 9-second package is capable of.

Yeah, I'm sure the track where this event was held was no more then a couple hundred feet above sea level, at most. Not like the high altitude places you guys out west run lol.
If TighTT would have taken our Werks1 aero parts off the car before the event, I guarantee he would have been at 170+

The organizers of the event say that their timing equipment was tested throughout the day versus vBox and never saw a margin larger than .2mph, so I'm guessing that's pretty good.

Come July we'll be battling humidity and heat, but gaining better surface temps where the tire meets the ground.

Most people had vbox's in their cars and the system was incredibly accurate. We stand by our #s from every event, but this was the best we've seen from anyone, ourselves included to-date. I have my own saying now too lol - "The game is won by MPH, but its measured in inches"
I walked about 25 total miles ensuring that everything was down to the inch, from start-60-1/4-1/2mile, every 6 ft, up and back across a 100' wide airstrip we also have some custom mounts for the sensors as well as secondary and tertiary methods to secure them so that wind doesnt move them.
We had good air fure sure, its the east coast as well as adecent 1850' elevation, a verified 1.01% downslope, as well as some track prep- both pre-race sweeping and compound. So yea, I'd say its heavily Racer oriented, but isnt that what we want
Ive been discussing with PG/Robert C and been directing all of our racers to use Vboxtools.com for verification. I have my own vbox i offered to lend out to people, and had i known records were on the line, i would have forced him to use it, but hindsight is 20/20
