sticky rotary PCM buttons
I've noticed that my volume and track selection rotary buttons on my 997.1 turbo PCM unit (the ones on each side of the screen that rotate but also are pushed to make selections/turn power on/of) are getting sticky and collecting dirt. Seems like the rubber/plastic has degraded over time. Does anybody know if the buttons can be replaced? If so is it an easy DIY? Thank you in advance...

Pull the old ones off, push new ones on. It's quite simple.

^^^agree, I popped them off and rubbed with some dish soap and gently with the rough side of a dish sponge -- they are now pristine. Do this before spending $25+ on new ***** -- if you aren't happy with the results then order.

Old t-shirt, Alcohol, Soap? What in the world are you guys doing in your car that makes them so sticky?
Correct the source once fixed I guess. My 08 button work well with no tackiness.

When I was shopping I saw many cars at dealer that had been presumably detailed but still had gross sticky *****. I think they have a rubberized coating that doesn't last, and leaves a mess as it breaks down.

Thanks for all the responses! Haha not doing anything too crazy in my car to get sticky buttons. Although boost is quite an erotic feeling . But in all seriousness I have tried spraying windex on paper towels and terry cloths and all it did was make it worse by leaving fibers from the towels or cloths. I'll try popping them off and cleaning them more vigorously with soap but as one member said, I think they just start to break down after a while no matter what. Glad they can be replaced though if the above doesn't work.

The point of taking them off and cleaning with soap is to remove all the broken down rubber. You will be left with the hard plastic underneath, which still looks OEM and has all markings and what not.
The rubber material on the buttons/***** breaks down from oil from your fingers/hands, sun, general age, etc. I am completely **** about having freshly washed hands anytime I get in the car (mainly out of concern for my shift ****/steering wheel) but **** happens regardless. In my case though, I get to blame it on the prior owner(s) as I cleaned them up immediately after buying the car and doing a thorough interior detail.

I bought the two ***** from Suncoast. When I took them off I tried cleaning them with a dab of dish-soap and water. They came out perfect in seconds. So I have the new ones in the bag as spares for the future.
Too bad you can't get the climate control buttons for that price.
