Looking for some opinions on this one from you guys before I buy this car.


I currently have a 991.1 C2S 2013 manual with all of the goodies that has been dropping steadily in value and I want to put a stop to it. Looking at a 997.2 TTS with 34k on the clock, it's a 2011. The price is right on the TTS.


My belief is that the TTS value is pretty close to the floor and the 991 I currently own has a long way to drop.


What do you think?

 

I would prefer the TTS over a C2S. My opinion of course but things to think about:
1) Interior is more classic on the 997.2. More refined on the 991 for sure
2) 997.2 will have a LOT more power. Smiles for miles
3) 997.2 will be more raw. Your 991 will definitely be more comfortable and tame
4) I think the 997.2 prices (esp. turbo S) have leveled off for the time being. 991 NA prob has some room to drop and will more now that the 991.2 are out.

 

i had a 2015 C2S, great car, sold it, bought another 2012 997.2TT, NO regrets

If the Turbo S you're considering is close to 50% off MSRP, then I would agree the price has leveled off. I agree that your 991 C2S will continue to depreciate b/c it has more room to do so. Not to mention, there are fewer 997 Turbo S cars on the road vs 991 C2S.

i think 997.2TTS is a beast and it look awesome, but it still have another couple years to fully depreciate. Assuming 997.2TTS with 30k miles prolly worth $80 - $90k in a couple years from now. I want to get 997.2TTS Cab adding to my stable when the price is right.

 

Interested to hear what the "right price" is. My 2011 has 26k miles and I'm considering selling before going to a 991 turbo. 997.2 turbos are in limited supply, three weren't that many built compared to .1s.

 

Have to point out the dropping in value of your current car is on paper only. When you sell it or trade it in then the drop in value, the depreciation becomes real.

If you don't sell the car you never book the depreciation.

If you buy another car then you open yourself up to yet more depreciation and the cycle begins anew.

If you can be sure the value of the 997.2 Turbo is at its bottom please apply your crystal ball to some stocks. These would be a better invsetment as you do not epxose them to the risk you expose your investment, err car, to every time you take it out.

I'm referring of course to the risk of an accident. Nothing depreciates a car quicker than a bad accident.

 

That is very unlikely to be where they bottom out. The '14 991 turbos have already come down into the 11X range with 2x,000 miles. As they continue their race for the bottom, that's going to push the 997.2s lower as well, as the typical turbo buyer is getting substantially more car for the money with the 991TTs (character and intangibles aside). You can already see this happening with the '12 TTS for sale. They are too close in price to the 991 turbos and languish on the market until the seller gets fed up and drops it low enough to attract attention.

 

I agree 100% with this. Used 991TT's are going to put a lot of downward price pressure on 997TT's.

 

Anyone love the 997.2TTS platform prolly get the best values for their money. However, 991TT in low $100k sound very tempted.

 

997.2 TT vs 991.1 TT with PDK? Definitely 991.1 TT.

 

I doubt the 991 TTS has stopped dropping. Wait til it's 10 years old or so and then you'll know. A day will come when that will be $75-95000 imo. And if I had $100k I would 100% pursue a 997 GT3 or newer if I could find one.

 

997TT are started to appreciate so it's probably a good move.

 

As an airstrip and track junkie I love the brutal power of the 997.2 TTS, and appreciate some of its characteristics only on the track such as the hydraulic steering. But otherwise as a street car I think the 997.2 TTS leaves a lot to be desired and would much rather have a 991 CS with the sport package (lower with larger 20" wheels).

The 991 platform is absolutely amazing and for the street, as the comfort, handing and electronic steering make driving the car fantastic and the 991 looks so much better than the 997's IMHO...and of course the NA motor/exhaust sounds a lot better too.

As far as depreciation goes, that's just a guess. No one knows particularly since the specifics of the car (mileage/condition) have a lot to do with it. And agree with those saying the 991 Turbos will put downward pressure on the 997.2 Turbo because the 991 Turbo is infinitely better.

Anyway I would test drive the 997.2 TTS if I were you. Good luck.
