Problems with PCM.1

My PCM.1 I think is basically shot. I get the White Porsche Screen with the crest in the middle and nothing ever happens.

If it ever does get past that screen I get:

System Error: CD Changer, Amplifier, Navigation System, Satellite radio, Phone not available.

Every once in a blue moon everything works and the radio will come on! Happens once ever 2 months!

On top of this I have a MASSIVE battery drain in my car somewhere. I have to keep it on a charger 24/7 and if I park it overnight somewhere it won't start the next day. I do have a smaller Braille Battery (B3121) but I had the radio issues long before I put this battery in.

Hoping someone can provide some insight into this. I don't want to replace the PCM and that not even be the problem.

As a lurker here, I've always wondered if I should get a fidelity warranty (when I buy) JUST for electronics. I can wrench. But work under the dash, electrical etc, scares me.

Best of luck with your issue!!!

I think the hardest part is finding someone who can actually figure out the problem!

I'm assuming by "PCM.1" you're meaning the 2.1 system?

I've had a lot of struggles with my 3.0 system (unit 1 fritzed out completely; replacement unit lost satellite/nav/Bluetooth 4 days after install) in a 2009 and there's virtually no real help online. Most people who've had issues have either had their system replaced outright under warranty or just went to an aftermarket unit.

Yeah, sorry. I guess it is 2.1

I personally just don't like aftermarket. I'm not a huge sound guy, and I like things to look OEM inside the car.

I just want the damn thing to work. And an AUX plug would be SOO nice.

Mine has done as you describe, but eventually came back to life

If its trashed, you can pick them up used for relatively cheap..

Same head units the Boxster

From the messages you described above, I would start by inspecting and ensuring all of the MOST Fiber Optics connections are in place and secure...You have two (in-Out) at the back of the unit, and then it loops through the AMP/CD Changer/Nav System (Accessed in the Frunk).

You may also try resetting it as follows...I have not tried this BTW.

PCM 2.1 reset by pushing 1+4+8 at the same time (Works for Cayenne supposedly)

Worth checking anyway

Good luck

I would agree with therock88. Check the orange most fiber lines behind the PCM and in the frunk. Thank could be the cause of the drain if the nav drive is never shutting off.

I had a similar problem in my Cayenne with PCM 2.0, although there was no battery drain. On rare occasions, starting the car produced a shockingly loud screeching noise from the speakers that would only cease when the ignition was switched off and the key was removed. My dealer was unable to replicate or diagnose the problem.

I would check to see if you have a short based on your battery issues comment.
Maybe it's your PCM that's causing it?

Ruskiy, that's actually a great tutorial. As soon as I get some time free I will try this. I know my car has some kind of a power drain, and this is the first step in trying to find it. Great post.

Bought a used PCM from ProdigyMB and I'll still test using the information above to see if I can find my power drain. I'll update with what I find. Might be useful information for others.
