Zeroing in on my final 997... thoughts?
So I'm zeroing in on my final 997 Porsche, third time is the charm they say. I've owned both a 2007 Turbo Coupe and a 2009 Turbo Cab (yes 6spds). This is what I hope to be my last p-car and will be a coupe... and I'm leaning towards the Turbo again, it's what I know and love. But... is there anyone who thinks perhaps doing a GT3 is the better way to go??? I'm looking at the 90-100k price range and there are a few GT3's in there. Before we get into how entirely different beasts they are, I get it... just can't help wondering if I should give it a go or stay focused. I do enjoy the high revving motor of my RS5... lots of fun with that... but miss the punch of the turbos. I'm not going to regret not getting a GT3 am I? Any thoughts on future rarity as well? GT3 would be 2007-2010 as well. Anyone here have or have had both a GT3 and a Turbo?
I'm posting this in the Turbo forum because most of you, like me, have or have had Turbos. Just want some honest opinions... Sure is getting harder and harder to find nice 997 Turbos anymore... not like 10 years ago.
(I've also owned a 2014 Boxster S and a 2013 Cayenne GTS for reference... among 50+ other cars)

Nothing but the turbo will do for me. Still on my first! I wish I could find something that had some of the awesome fender lines and spoilers as a 991 GT3 with the 997 turbo engine. Porschezilla or Porschenstein or something.
The GT3 is so stunning and apparently great for the track. I only track occasionally so my tt has been just fine. I don't think I could give up the power of the tt (loads of mods) so the GT3 will always be a dream. Let us know what you end up doing...
50 cars? wow, do you trade them like baseball cards or something??

50 cars is impressive. I had to count and I’m in the mid 30s.... unless you plan on tracking or this is strictly a let her rip kind of car the turbo is a better choice. I had 996 variants of both and the turbo was much more enjoyable. Gt3 is on rails and an amazing car but I wouldn’t think of it as a daily. I’m getting back in a p-car with a 997 turbo for daily swapping with the GTR which is what my 996 got traded on. Turbos are the best blend of performance and live ability out there.

As for the 50 car thing, I started thinking about it and made a list last night. I came up with 41... I may have forgotten one or at most two.. so I guess 50+ was wrong.. must have been thinking about something else. This next car will be 42... not bad..

lol.
How could I forget the drive I had in a friend of a friend's GT3 Touring - I gather it is a limited edition car, previously known as the 911 R or something like that. Anyway, it has beautiful lines, amazing interior with awesome seats, updated interior cosmetics, a 6 speed manual transmission and a naturally aspirated engine. Quite peppy. Not cheap. Man if they would just make this exact car with a turbo engine...although sometimes I wonder about all the power in the turbo (modified of course) - it's not like I can use it ALL the time but the few bursts of speed are a real joy. Knock on wood so far no encounters with LEO and I'm not sure how effective the old "I'm on my way to deal with an emergency" would be, lol.

In negotiations with an 09 turbo... busy month though, might take till July to close this. Part of me is wondering if I should wait for some sort of price drop with the way things are going.. so hard to judge this market.

I just picked up an 08 at a fair price. There may be a little more price drop but I think the big drops have already happened. If you find the one you want with the right options it’s probably not worth a few k to wait and see imo. I probably could have waited as well but I wanted black/beige coupe and one came up so I put the deposit down the day it came available.

Agree with the post above also. If you haven’t driven a gt3 you need to in order to make the right decision. They are very different cars and depending on your wants and it’s use the gt3 may be a better choice. Turbo all the way for me, for the random occasions of just driving to drive the Ferrari comes out. GTR and Turbo are daily use stuff golf course grocery store etc.

I don't get this GT3 thing, I've owned lots of 911's , 964's, 993's, 996 GT3 RS and a 997 turbo.
The 2007 997 turbo I bought new and after less than 2 years I sold it. Regret...
In 2012 I was able to buy a 'like new' 2008 and never looked back.
It's the ultimate road car from Porsche. For track, GT3 is king! Nothing beats a turbo on the road.
