A couple of things I noted from the article that were touched on in this thread, yet not thoroughly, and one thing that wasn't noted in this thread.
First, the cold air issue:
Yes the colder air, 32* or something like that, would help the Turbos. Yet it was run on a wet surface with patches of ICE . . . there HAD to be at least SOME traction loss through the run
It's possible the traction loss wasn't felt by the driver but was there periodically through the 1/4 so as to affect the final e.t./trap.
On an actual TRACK, that Tiptronic 997TT will run quicker AND faster; the Manual 997TT faster still.
Second, the over-boost issue:
People have mentioned the "real-world" roll runs between the C6 ZO6 and 997TT while referencing their respective trap speeds.
In addition to what's been speculated about the Tip and Manual 997TT'S . . . that over-boost is only good for 10 seconds.
In a 1/4, wouldn't the boost drop back down for the last second and a half of the run??? Thereby resulting in a lower trap speed???
NOW . . . to add more fuel to the fire of this heated topic as of late
In a HIGHWAY roll race, where the 997TT would BEGIN with all of it's over-boost for 10 seconds, it would be interesting to see what would happen during the next 10 seconds against a stock C6 ZO6
That is if my understanding of Porsche's new over-boost feature is accurate.
I think the Tip loses from a roll and the Manual 997TT pulls by half a car.
That's my bench-racing reply for the day

It does just show how superior to all Porsche is that they can run these times in the conditions it did.

OMG, can u image how fast these cars are going to be? if the 997TT is an indicator, looks as if we might be hitting 10s in the upcoming GT2.
