The Process Has Started - The Official "EVOlution of a 997TT" Thread

The Process Had Begun--- We have officially started the R&D process of our 997TT. We will be updating this thread on a regular basis with the progress we make during R&D process and the quest for more power.

Yesterday we racked the car to get a glimpse of the underside. We will be dyno testing the car later this week or early next week before we pull the engine. Additionally, We already received our test ECU and we will begin testing the software modifications in the next few weeks.

<O =""></O>Today we received our shipment of KKK products including a pair of the VTG turbos off of the 997TT. We have already disassembled them and are looking at ways to improve them. Although we would like to just replace them with our GT700 turbos, we cannot take that approach and are looking at ways to improve on this new technology. We will see what can be done shortly.

That's a great move...would be cool to see first improvements on a 997 TT...I'm waiting for the dyno results after the new turbos are on!

I think that is a great way to do it. I would like to see this technology at work in a high hp application. Maybe when you get to the 700-800hp range the VTG can make a big difference... Interested to see, good luck!

Cool.

Since I'm holding onto my 2005 996 TSCab, and await via deposit the 997TTS (original plan was for TSCab, instead I might go with TSCoupe), I am keen to see what you come up with, since I might decide to get a 997TTbase coupe and mod it off the bat, depending on what the hardware in the S is like-possibly more robustly mod-able.

That would be interesting. I think these turbos in stock form are near their limit. After dissecting one today, there is room for improvement on both the compressor and turbine side. If you figure the power gains on the 996TT came from increasing boost from 11 psi to 15 psi, while adjusting fuel and timing it would be hard to get the same gains from the 997TT. The 997TT already runs 18 PSI which is only in over boost mode. I don’t think these turbos can take much more than that especially since the increased heat will decrease the life of them. The reason for the EGT probe in the turbine and only a 10 second over boost is due to the fear of cooking these turbos. This is the reason these turbos are water cooled as well as constant monitoring of the EGT's. I have noticed that the over boost mode is VERY inconsistent. Sometimes it will hold 18 PSI and sometimes it will spike to 18 PSI and then fall to 15 PSI.

There will be a good improvement with the software, exhaust, headers, but I would be surprised if 650 is obtainable with these turbos without modifications. We will see. <o =""></o>

Its on the road right now. It is parked in my driveway The turbos are still on my car. Stop by in the morning and you can take it for a spin.

No but seriously, I noticed the same thing on the car I drove. I knew that 10 second overboost thing was hokey to begin with. I think this is especially the case with 91.

I wish I could. I have my parents flying into town tomorrow night and we are heading out of town. I promised my father I would let him and my mother roll in it this weekend. I figure that is the least I could do. At 15, I would hot wire his Porsche when he would go away and drive around without a license. I figure he deserves a little payback
