Swedish AMS 997TT vs. Z06 Track Comparo
Track comparison between the 997 Turbo and the Corvette Z06 by Swedish AutoMotorSport magazine.

They also have dyno charts showing the relative strengths of both powertrains. The Porsche's dyno run only goes to ~4000 rpm due to some electronic intervention, so the measured peak RWHP value of 334.3 DIN (329.7 SAE) is obviously not the true peak. RWTQ peak is a very healthy ~461 ft-lbs while there is a whopping 442 ft-lbs at the wheels at just over 2000 rpm! Comparitive peak rear wheel outputs of the Z06 were 468.2 HP (SAE) and 436.8 ft-lbs.
Track testing was done at Mantrop Park by hot shoe STCC champ Fredrik Ekblom. His subjective impressions aren't too favorable on the TT - he opines that the "Porsche feels feminine compared to the Z06", and adds that the "Z06 pisses on the Porsche". As for actual track times, the Z06 was 2.6 seconds quicker per lap which leads him to conclude that "that's like comparing cars from different classes".
On the brighter side, the 997TT held its own in straightline acceleration at least until ~100 mph and through the 1/4 mile.
We need to see a GT3 vs. Z06 track comparo for a more even matchup!

Take some weight from the TT or add like ~30-40 hp and it will take the Z06 to 150 easy.
AKA TurboS or GT2
AKA TurboS or GT2

Just can't reason like that.

magazine tests are odd and I really do not use them as any measuring stick anymore. See every tester, driver, condition is different. Therefore, on any given day one of the cars could be better off than the other. The driver might have more vette seat time, or more 911 seat time. The track could be 911 friendly or corvette friendly. They may have had weather problems...I guess it is all part of the game. However, for these reasons, I put very little weight into what magazines say. I will reserve judgment for when I drive them both.

Quit making excuses fot the tt. There are faster cars in this world.

kudos to GM for assembling a car that costs half as much as its nearest competitor, which seems to be where their car really takes the lead.

why compare them at all...The Z06 is the best from Gm...wait for the 997gt2 that woulld be a better camparion

Good article. I'm actually surprised they favored the Z06, typically that magazine (and euro magazines in general) heavily favor german/italian cars. The outcome surprised me a little bit, I knew the Z was going to be faster around the track but not by that margin. Anyways it's good to have the numbers out there, magazine racing isn't very good but it's a few steps better than the internet racing that's been going on lately. Props to the Z.

Either way, I would still get a Porsche any day of the week. The corvette isn't a car I would want to drive daily.

Sir: I would rather have a sister in a ***** house than be seen in a Z06 Corvette no matter how fast it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you very much.
