We need a Corvette section so that I never have to see a Z06 beating "........." thread again. There are like 20 of these on 6speed right now.
The vettes are fast! Sweet. It ran faster on a track than a TT. Awsome. Can we move on?.....

Don't be so arrogant guys the vette is a fine car, and a hell of a lot cheaper than any TT. The engine is also a SUPERIOR platform for racing than any european engine. Having said that, I'm still getting a TT, I think it an overall better car, it had better be for the $$.

I agree with dont be arrogant, but as for being a superior engine then ANY european? I highly disagree. S54 motor comes to mind, 3.6 liter GT3 motors and many others which were built for racing also!

I disagree with the engine statement. Those Germans are milking the 6 banger to 480 HP. Most 6th grade student science projects could build a 6 liter, 8 cylinder engine that pumps out 500 HP. GM has done nothing revolutionary there.

I think it would be presumptious to believe that "most 6th grade student science projects could build a 6 liter, 8 cylinder engine that pumps out 500HP". That is a rather dramatic assertion, but I understand your point.

Based on my own experiences with these cars, I think the engine in the 997TT is more of a precision built engine than the Z06 engine. In actuality, they are not really comparable platforms. Remember the cost between the two machines, that's important too.

The S54 is probably the last engine that comes to mind for a strong plaform. LOL

No no, I think the 996TT engine is one helluva platform. 997TT probably will be as well. 996GT3 is amazing. As are the 65 AMG engines.
The Z06 engine is nice, but I wouldn't say it's a better platform than the Euro contenders.

The standard nextel cup motor, based on the std small block chevrolet motor, makes in excess of 850hp with a restrictor plate/ 4 barrel carb setup. It will run 600miles + on a superspeedway at WOT at about 8,000 RPM for hours, I don't think any GT3 engine could do that with any degree of reliability. The porsche H6/flat 6 GT1 is a great platform, but not better than the SBC V8 as far as endurance racing goes.
You can't really compare forced induction to NA motors, but the GT1/GT3 NA vs SBC is a fair comparison, just look at what the covettes do in petite lemans, the p cars can't even run in the same class. I love p cars, but as far as racing engines go, I know which is better.

I'd be curious to know how many of the Z06 haters on this forum have actually driven the car (besides Amerlemans)? And how many of you have driven the Z06 then jumped in the 997TT and driven it to draw a real time comparison?

I think its fine if you don't prefer the Z06 over the 997TT, but why is it necessary to personally attack the owner/driver? What purpose does it serve?

I happen to like both cars, they each have a different personality and heritage to them. Enjoy the cars!

To most owners build quality is more important than "time around the track" otherwise we would all strip our cars bare like grussell. Lol.

Being a fan of all racing (except drag racing) and follwing all of them, I know the Nextel cup cars engines run well but they are good for about 3 races tops.....at a cost of between $150-200K. They are in no way better than an F1 engine or an IRL Honda or Toyota racing engine.

A GT3 will run much better and much stronger over a long period of time. Its been proven time and time again that when Porsche does the 24 hr 'ring' tests.

Could you imagine what Porsche could do with an 8.0 ltr engine, probably about 1000 hp with their expertise and tuning (NA mind you).
I always feel that the american motors are 'loose'. they stuff this huge displacement engine in and put out nothing compared to what the germans do. 500 hp for the vetter and 500 hp for the m5. except that the m5 lacks those extra 3.0 ltrs of displacement, hmmm... .
On the other hand, Porsches engines are pinacles of automitive engineering. Their engines are tight, and precise and each little detail is a precise and well thought out.
Take one example, the 3.6 L 997 GT3 engine. that motor, according to sources i have read says it the most hp/ltr of any street legal production car EVER MADE. the 3.6 liter pushed out 415 hp! only 85 hp less than the z06 but with 4.4 ltrs less! now come on, if that doesnt show you that american engineering is lacking A LOT, then theres no hope for you.
