Front bumper plastic guard

Wanted to know the front bumper bottom has a black plastic strip, I guess you would call it a some kind shield or guard to protect from scrapping. I have scrapped it a couple of times, but my dealership says its nothing to worry about because its like a couple hundred dollars to replace it. Its a seperate piece that pops right off and pop a new one on. Is this true?

Yupp its true. Go look for yourself on your car. The only thing is, that it makes the car look two tone. Even if your car has black paint, it still looks "two tone". It's really unsightly in my opinion. You can paint it or order it painted from the factory, to make it look better. However, then it'll be alot more costly and more of a hassle to replace the scraped the chin spoiler.

Scratches all the time, not worth worrying about, definitely don't have it painted.

another vote for not painting it. Unless its a garage queen that never sees driveways, speedbumps etc.

It is a pain in the *** to paint it after it gets scuffed up. The key is to always crab the car and to have a few painted spares ready to mount. For me it was better than riding around in a $100K plus car that looked like it wasn't finished.

I thought about painting mine but after seeing a few with scuffed spoilers, I changed my mind. I can only imagine what it must be like for those who chose to lower their cars. Must scuff it even more!

Aesthetically, it looks a lot nicer painted. But realistically, I wouldn't paint mine (if I owned the car).

Don't lower it, don't paint it. The spoiler will get rubbed at some point, you just can't help it, even went angling the car on driveway aprons.

I just bought a spare from Bill Profeta, the Part Manager from Auto Gallery Porsche at 818 884-4411. He sells them for around $200.00.

He also has the Porsche OEM 2007 997TT indoor covers with the logos on them if you're interested - they fit perfectly!

I don't mean to hi-jack the thread, but here's a couple photos of the cover on the car:

Paint the side skirts and the rear lower bumper, but not the front lip unless you're willing to replace it often...

I also purchased the same cover from Auto Gallery. Nice cover, but pretty expensive. I will go over there this week and buy a spare guard.
