will the new Skyline be a Porsche eater?

how do u say the Turbo is in a league of its own? Not like its the new GT3RS or something. Its not all that special. I see you own one. They are great cars, but if you never been behind the wheel of a GT-R you have no idea.
I like to compare the Turbo and the GT-R like this. The Turbo has the performance with luxury (not physically but more of its an easier car to drive). While the GT-R takes a physical toll on your body.

This is a GREAT thread!
I have been a huge fan of the Skyline for years and have owned one (Skyline 350GT aka Infiniti G35)...and am waiting with baited breath for the GTR to come stateside.
As for the comments comparing the GTR to the 997TT and ZO6 - yes, its true. The GTR is THE CAR in Japan. When i visited Tokyo last winter, i was amazed to see tons n tons of AMAZING Skylines that were tuned to the max. So once this car is available in the states as well, look out...it will be a monster!
As for whopping on 997TT's..ehhh, i doubt it. But just the fact that its gonna come close to such an amazing car will be enough to get me behind the wheel - esp for 75k!!!

we will have to see what Nissan has up there sleeves as far as the powerplant for the new GTR. The RB26DETT was such a great engine and has been proven time and time again to make big power.
the 997TT and the former BCNR33 GTRs that I have had the chance to drive are both 2 completly different types of vechiles. The 997TT has a very liner powerband, while the R33s that i have driven are a little laggy IMO out of the box having to build some boost pressure and then the car comes alive.
the Veilside R34 has broken alot of records i think they did some old top speed/wangun runs over in new zealand, Mr. Yokomaku is a very experianced tuner. Another prominent tuner would be Mr. Smokey Nagata of Top Secret... pretty insance cars, JZ80 Supra with a 3SGTE engine, BCNR34 with the new VQ engine (341km/h Autobahn Attack)...even making his own GTR using the Nissan Cima AWD drivetrain on the new G35 coupe/Nissan SKyline GT350.
IMO time attack is where the tell all test are and show the complete dynamic of each machine. one of my favorites would be a japanese tuner Power House Amuse. A full dry carbon R34 widebody and use exotic materials such as titanium wherever they can even the charge pipes are Ti. Weighing around 1100Kg and with over 600PS powering the rear wheels (yes, just the rear ones!) this is a impressive machine.

Actually it was made in LHD configurations. Just never available to the US market. I believe areas of the Middle East (Dubai, UAE, etc etc) are the locations where it was available in LHD configurations (according to some vid I watched)
Not too long ago, my dad was thinking about getting a GT-R33 V-Spec imported since the legalization isn't very hard on that model. As for the GT-R32's and GT-R34's, forget about it. Unless you feel like buying a few for the government to crash test so we can *maybe* have them allowed to be legalized.

yes, i have driven both R33 and R34 version of the skylines (stock and modded) while working and travelling overseas. yes, they are fast and mad fun to mod. yes, you get your money's worth for its quality, power, and comfort. THe GTR is just as comfortable and practical as a stock TT so I am not sure where you got the feeling of getting tossed around. My point is any potential buyer for a 997tt would not consider a Skyline GTR unless they are looking to spend $80K less for a Jap High end exotic. I personally loves the GTR and NSX.

even as cooperlee put it, not many who are in the market for a 997TT are going to be really for the most part looking at a gt-r, it will def be prob, hands down the best second car next to a turbo. having a 997TT AND a skyline gt-r are two cars that can go out onto a track or the street and crush most everything there(in stock form and especially with a few mods). we all know this car is going to look good, be a good value, and is going to perform and have the ability to mod it like crazy for tremendous results. the only thing i think they should have done, was market it as an infiniti rather than a nissan. either way the game is going to change for the NA cars like the gallardo, z06, and f430 when you have 997TTs and gt-rs modded that are lurking for some fresh meat. those NA cars, unless they go FI wont stand a snowballs chance in hell. i cant waitg for this car to hit the us.

but nowhere has anybody been able to come up with conclusive evidence that Nissan THEMSELVES produced LHD GT-R's. all the proof for this has been based on pictures of LHD examples. but there's no way of knowing for sure whether those are original. all we'd need are official documents from Nissan indicating that LHD GT-R's are out there... but so far, no such documents have ever surfaced.
i could well be wrong... and i wish i am, because it means I could try and track down a proper LHD R34 GT-R someday. the conversions are very difficult, because of the inline-6's engine configuration (the components you need to relocate don't enjoy being next to the very hot turbines).
again, all due respect, but someone please post an official Nissan service bulletin or catalog document clearly indicating the existence of LHD GT-R's, so this issue will be settled once-and-for-all...

i ran across the first skyline i have ever seen recently in edmonton, alta. it was LHD. on leaving a stop light the driver accelerated hard- wonderful, powerful sound.
personally i've always been partial to porcshes, but the more great autos the better.

my neighbor is the head designer for Nissan. We've been talking about this car for a while. He's a real car guy and loves my 996tt. However, from a design and performance POV - he thinks the GTR will blow it away (for $60k less).
Based on my experience with INfiniti products...I tend to agree with him.
I guess we'll all find out.
One thing is for certain the new GTR is *light years* ahead of the R35.
Nissan has been working on this thing for a LOOONG time. They almost didnt even build it!

I guess they are saying it will be 997TT performance for the price of a 997. That translates into 70-80k range. Note that this will be on the 'Ring not 0-60 or 1/4 mile - Nissan have always promoted an 'entire package' in this car vs. 0-60 or 1/4 mile stats. It just so happens to excel at those too once the tuners get a hold of it.
I would venture a bet it will beat a 997TT and even GT3 around the 'Ring. I doubt it will beat a 997TT on the move however (i.e. 40-100mph blasts). it wont be lighter than the 997TT by 100-200 lbs or so.
They are fantastic cars in an aggresive boxy Japanese way. With Evo's being easily modded to be faster than 997TT's for not much $$$ the GTR will prove to be down right ridiculous when it comes to mods. Bigger engine, more turbos = more power to be had. That is of courseif, as some have pointed out, they use a strong(er) block than whats out there now. Plenty of horror stories of charged 350's and G35's failing with moderate boost levels.
If the time aligned I would be a cross shopper of a 997TT and GTR despite the large price difference. Although its not a keeper like a Porsche is, I mean lets face it, I see mid 70's P cars aroud town and they look fantastic when taken care of. You cant say that about many other cars.

First off offically NISSAN NEVER MADE A LEFT HAND DRIVE GT-R EVER... I know this for a fact. The reason being is the steering column goes right where the turbo's are. The thing is that a lot of dubi people got MOnEY and for 20k they can convert it to LHD. Skyline Motors out here in the states use to do the conversion for a little under 20k.
Now about the Skyline GT-R.. This is how its coming out. It is being displayed in full trim at this years Tokyo Auto Saloon. Will be sold early 07 in Japan and be sold here in spring of 08 as an 09 model here state side. To my knowledge they are releasing the new body coupe GT first to the states then dropping the GT-R...
As of now I am buying one for sure. Love Porsche and Love Nissan... Who is better.. honestly it comes down to driver. both are great cars. But both are to different driving styles. The porsche is more refined while the GT-R is just like its called in Japan Godzilla (meaning its a dam monster)...
Also about wieght.. The skyline has always been around 3300lbs. The R32 was the lightest then the 34 then the 33 being the heaviest. I see the car doing 0-60 in 4.5 sec's and the quarter in maybe high 11's... Skylines have never been known for top end in stock trim so i figure its top speed might be near 180 MAYBE 190... Thats not including the electronic limiter.
One thing for sure. HKS, Top Secret, Signal, Jun, Veilside and Blitz already have info on the engine. And as soon as its released i am having a motor shipped state side to working on it right away... Figure its going to be a least either a 3.0 or a 3.8 liter motor.. With that being said the old RB26 stroked out to 3.0l is considered the craziest import motor ever built having a power rating at over 1300hp at the wheel.
