will the new Skyline be a Porsche eater?
#31
I think another thing to consider is that now, all of us who as kids owned Hondas and Acuras and Toyotas and Nissans as our first cars probably always fixated on the Skyline as it was the premier end all be all for import (Asian) cars. We are now coming in to money. This car will sell very quickly.
Also, it's worth noting that the reason this car is being compared to the 997TT is because Nissan uses the 997TT as a benchmark. That's what they are aiming for; to beat the 997TT around the N'ring.
All that being said, the two cars come from very different places, but there is no single right way to get your adrenaline pumping. If you're pulse is raised and your *** is comfy, then you've found your happy place and whichever ride you're in is the correct one.

Did you guys here the 7 Speed Sequential Transmission downshifting? You can here it blipping the throttle!
Great alternative to the Z06, but I don't think the 911TT buyer would consider this car even though its cheaper. If you can swing $130k and $50k cheaper car wouldn't even be a option. Maybe a $160k Gallardo or something more reasonable would be the $100k Audi R8.

The new skyline will probably be what the 350z was to the 300zx, a "modernized" version that goes slower and lacks the 90's japanese lunacy that made the original Skylines, Supras, 300's, etc, etc what they were.
Because of that, I'd much rather have one of the old ones, when the cars were made by people who wanted to go fast instead of by people who are trying to appease all the enthusiasts they alienated of late.
I doubt in stock form, or even lightly modded, the new ones will hold a candle to the 997TT.
With an RB swap, sure, but if you're going to go to that expense and hassle, you may as well just import a "real" Skyline rather than settle for a limp-wristed pseudo-version of it.

The 350z was a HUGE disapointmet to manzy hardcore Z guys. Same thing can be said for the "RX8" that i barely consider a sports car - compared to the old RX7s that were screamers!
Lets hope were both wrong.

The GTR wont disapoint, if it does it will backfire so hard on the company thats taken decades to make it right. This is one of those image things for Nissan, they need to nail it. They dont care about sales figures, they just want to say 'they can'.

The GT-R (David) will beat the 997TT (Goliath). Nissan will do whatever it takes to ensure this happens. My hat will be the first that tips. Nissan will do what GM could not do with the ZO6....produce a rocket that is refined and engineered well....for under 80K! Unlike the ZO6, this will be a car that will deserve comarison with the iconic 997TT.

I'm really interested in this car, too. I have always loved Skylines, but now that I own a 997, I wouldn't trade it for a GT-R. If the GT-R looks as good as the previous ones, I might consider one as a second car, no matter how impractical two performance coupes and nothing else in my garage would be. A friend who used to be a major player in the auto industry bought an M5 as a "holdover" until the GT-R arrives. That, to me, says a lot...
I can't wait for the official photos.

lets just not hope it's like some of these other japanese noise makers. the r34 was a cool car. kinda like driving a playstation, but i dunno how many of you guys like driving playstations. i mean sure it's gonna be a blast to drive, but i dunno i'd still jump in the M3 if it came down to it. I'm sure the Skyline's interior won't be as great. and for those of you who say "who cares bout the interior" well for someone like me who ant afford multiple ponies i'd have to sit in it day in and day out. plus the ladies like german cars more

i think the gt-r will pose the only serious threat to the 997TT, albeit doing it in an entirely different way. its going to be a hell of a lot better than a z06, certainly going to perform close to the 997TT, and i think its going to show up the f430 and will also compete closely if not slightly better than the gallardo.
