Stock wheel weights

Since I swapped my stock wheels for HREs, we took the liberty of weighing the stock wheels to see how much weight was saved. The stock wheels included centers, but not tires or TPC sensors.

Front wheel: 24 lbs
Rear wheel: 30 lbs

The HRE C21s I installed are 19.5 lbs (front) and 20 lbs (rear). This adds up to a total savings of 29 lbs of rotating, unsprung weight.

Has anyone else weighed the stock wheels and gotten confirming or disconfirming data? I will admit I was surprised at how heavy the stock rear wheels are.

Treynor, surprised that the rears weigh that much. I thought that these wheels were forged. Thanks for the info.

I posted weights of my Dymags a few weeks ago. When I get my new ones in, I will post weights of my 20" TechArts, 19" Dymags, 19" Carrera Classics, and 18" Fikses for comparison's sake.

The stock wheels are forged and I concur with treynor on the weights. I checked them out when I took them off a while back too.

not all forged wheels are created equal

plus lighter isn't ALWAYs better... sometimes you need a bit of beef to deal with the extra load

True, but do you have any data with which to make a decision?

Do you guys know if the 997TT wheels will fit a 996TT?

This might be a nice upgrade to my stock wheels...

Questions on tire pressure sensor

The weights of factory wheels are about right. I think Atomic80 posted 25.4 front and 29.0 rear. Big Question: I was told that the tire pressure sensors are poorly secured in the HRE C21 rims. A fellow at Imagine Auto said the sensors had to be held on with rubber bands. Wheel Enhancement repr says that is not true. The sensors work fine in Porsche system. Did you have any problems with tire-air pressure sensors??? When you installed the rims, did the pressure monitor work on the dash?? Also I guess you got the 19" rims, I was thinking of going to 18" for a less-firm ride and even less weight gain.

Almost 30 lbs savings from rims is pretty impressive man

Not to mention they look a lot better too.
