Very interesting to here, my stg 2 (And some) 996TT pulled relentlessly on my friend M5 from several diff speeds and gears, he's a member on here and people say a stg 2 car is a bit quicker or equal to 997TT (all depends so many diff. scenarios) In all congrats, M5/6 is a sick car and I like them a lot, well and of course the 997TT

R/T has the 997S doing 3.9 0 to 60 also.

i was actually refering to the m5 and m6 side by side test where it showed that the only advantage the m6 had was in trap speed by 1-2 mph. i think IIRC tho a 996TT through any mph 0-100, 0-150, it is faster but the 996TT and m6 are very close.

I dont see why 0-60 and quarter mile times keep coming up in here. the original post was relating them at highway speeds. The M5 will not keep up with the TT from a dig because #1 It's RWD vs AWD and while optimal launches are possible, very unlikely and even with it's best launch it will spin the tires some. #2 It's 500 lbs heavier. #3 Mcars are a pain to launch even with the launch control which wont grip on the street. whoop-tee-do!

To add to the previous post; you can't even turn off the traction on the 6speed M5, they have been posting lower 1/4miles times than the 997s. I drove circles around an M6 at a track.. Those cars are way too heavy. The 997tt will have the edge on launch and weight; the M cars just use ridiculous power to make up for everything else.

I personally wouldn't mind having an M5 in my stable, I think its a great car. I just feel they aren't at the same league as sports car anymore.

I have clocked several 996 and a 997 GT3 as well as 996 turbo at our track (Road Atlanta) going low 1:40's (1:42-1:44), which can be expected. I also have lap times from a forum members M6 who also has a GT3 and he run 1:46's in traffic. Of course Road Atlanta is more suited to powerful cars but still its a road course and in the hands of a skilled driver you will get a run for your money. Of course the M6 is better but they are essentially the same car.

I did not read all the answers, but don't forget that the M5 is a bigger, heavier "family" car but with a perfect technique inside.... (V10, big engine etc), so dont be sad if the difference is not that significant.

the M(onster)5 is a piece of art - except the interrior, thats so awful !!!

here...this is a stock 997TT vs. a stock m6...

http://youtube.com/watch?v=QmIkQnTzw...elated&search=

the m6 gets walked hard! the 997TT would do the same just more to an m5...an m6 and m5 are more of an even match for a 996TT. i agree that the new m cars are much less of sports cars these days. the just keep shoving huge engines with a lot fo hp to try to keep up. our "old generation" 996TTs are still a force to be reckoned with for the brand new m5 and m6.

I wonder how the 997tt would fare against one of those supercharged AMG torque monsters from a rolling start. The M cars aren't exactly known for torque...

a 997TT would def take most of the amgs if not all (stock for stock that is). i think the cl65, the sl65 and a couple others might be close. the new NA v8 amg 63s are fast but not faster in et or trap than the supercharged v8 amgs from what ive seen so far.

tts will beat them if the tt-driver has sense enough to keep engine rpm high enough to avoid time/speed robbing turbo lag. The merc sc AMG's all show low 4's for 0-60 except for the SLR McLaren ($500K) which is down to tt's 3.5 range.

i base my judgements on trap speeds...we all know a 0-60 sprint is worthless...its more about 30-130, or 40-140 or somewhere in that mid range...i have seen the 997TT trap 123 mph in a mag test...most amgs dont even touch 120s...except for the cl 65 which i think hits 121 stock and the sl65 which hits 121-122 also stock...so yes given equal drivers a 997TT should beat most amgs very easily and the cl and sl 65 might be a good match and the slr would be faster since it traps about 125 mph.
