Heavychevy your spot on with your analysis, and don't forget the M5 five will haul a foursome and their sticks during that launch.

Two different cars, two completely different drives, I think everyone should have one of each so that this argument can be settled properly

My policy exactly.

In all seriousness, Idive, please share your post-break in comparison/impressions.

Will do, I'm hoping for some significant differences, a bit strange since many people attempt to show them near equal.

The M5 is a monster....I've owned both 997TT and currently have an M5....From start, due to AWD and traction, the 997TT would win to 60....Everytime!! But, at highway speeds, they feel pretty comparable to me with even a slight edge to the M5 becuase of the instantaneous pull and ease of paddle shifting...

Would be nice to get some 30-130 or 40-140 stats, that would for sure show the differences

Anybody has those stats ?

Spot on.

The video of the 997TT vs M6 you posted showed all that needs to be shown. The cars were in a heads up race and the M6 got walked. The M6 is faster than the M5, and the 997TT is faster than both the M6 and M5 from a stop or a roll. Period.

I'm not sure what more evidence people need. Nothing is more accurate than a heads up race when both people know they're racing. Not butt-dynos, not 1/4 mile times, not 60-130 times...nothing.

I agree partially Divexxtreme, and yes the 997tt walkes on the M6, but the run they are showing is in no way 50 to 250kmph more like 50 to 200 or less
so it still doesn't show the whole picture in which the M6 might close at higher speed on the 997tt, just my 2 cents

OK. I'll just say it one last time: (i) TT doesn't "feel" any faster than M5, (ii) it is empiracally not faster if not pushed really hard and (iii) I don't think will ever (in stock form) be "significantly faster". (Defined by me as that subjective rush you get when you nail it and feel the raw power).

Note carefully that I never claimed the M5 is faster-- it's not. But-- and this is the part that was importnt to me-- if you are moving from an M5/M6 to a 997TT expecting to get that "holy sh*t, this is crazy fast" feeling all over again, you will be dissappointed. They are both crazy fast on an absolute scale, but the TT is not crazy fast compared to the M-cars.

That's all I'm saying. Look, I'm the one who bought and loves the 997TT......although I have now decided to defintely keep the M5.

Mike,

The video clearly shows that they went up to 250 kph or so. They have no reason to lie...especially considering the fact that the person filming and editing all of the footage is the owner of the world's largest M5 and M6 boards (Gustav)...so he would prefer that the M6 win the race.

Some more facts:

The 997TT's drag coefficent is .31. The M5's is .31 also, and the the M6's is .32.

The 997TT weighs 3,500+ lbs. The M5 weighs 4,012 lbs and the M6 weighs 3,900+ lbs.

The 997TT makes 457 -501 ft lbs of torque (with Sport Chrono). The M5 and M6 only makes 383 ft lbs.

100-200 kph times:
997TT = 8.4
M5 = 9.3
M6 = 8.8

All of the videos that show M5's and/or M6's running against 997TT's show the M cars getting beat. What else needs to be shown? Why are people so resistent to the fact that as fast as the M5 and M6 are, they are not as fast as a 997TT?

I'm with you, Chris. It's just that butt-dynos really don't mean anything...and a butt-dyno is what you based this thread on.

I agree that the M5 and M6 are very fast cars...especially from a roll. That being said, for what you get with the M5 (good performance, room to spare, great comfort..all at a reasonabaly good price)...I think it's a hard car to beat. If I could comfortably afford one and still keep my P-car, I'd have one as well.

One nice thing about the 997TT that the M cars don't have is incredible moddability. With just a ECU tune and compressor swap from Protomotive, along with a good aftermarket exhaust...you can net another 200 crank HP from your car.

I dont disagree with you at all scott, especially up to 120 mph or so but 8.4 - 8.8 is not a big difference at those speeds and I would bet that most of that distance came before 100 mph. The turbo owns either up to 120 mph but it's also arguable that it's about even with a Z06 up to about 100 mph going from a dig at least. I have a best motoring video of a Z06 and 007 TT 1/4 mile and the turbo gets a better launch and just walks away from the Z, but I've also seen the opposite, in the case of the M6 vs TT it would be less likely but after 100-115 I would consider them about even. AWD cars fall off pretty drastically after 100 which is why you can see similar ET's and less mph for a AWD.
