Lojack???

Who here got LOJACK with their car? Dealer asked if I wanted to buy it. Figure if someone wants the car bad enough there are ways around it.

Also, since it's not my daily driver I figure I have more say in where I leave the car etc.

I don't think many people will admit to having LoJack on their particular car for security concerns, for example I wouldn't want to know that people see a ton of pictures of my vehicle online and then know it has LoJack in case they'd want to steal it from me.

LoJack is good and bad. If someone steals your car, do you really want it back after they beat the ever living $#it out of it?

I had lowjack on my M3. To be honest, its purpose is for peace of mind but whether it provides that or not is debatable. For $700, a guy comes out and installs the device inside your car (and will not reveal where he is installing it.... even to you- company policy.) So you have the device in your car, but what is it really going to provide? Well it didn't help my insurance rate, but if the car was stolen it could be tracked instantly and any culprit (suposedly) will have no way of telling whether you car has lowjack or not.

Lowjack states that they will not activate the device unless you call and report your car missing, but the reality is that they have the power to track you car at any point. If I had to do it again, I probably would just for the peace of mind, but it does come at a pretty penny IMO. Pros and Cons just like anything.

A car that hasn't had its LoJack unit activated, still emits a signal that thiefs can locate the unit.

Exactly

I need to find the site, I read it a long time ago about how the LoJack unit was great for newbies who tried to steal cars, but the professionals were able to locate the unit within 2-3 minutes of jacking the car. They showed pictures of the actual LoJack unit (very thin, credit card sized unit) etc.

The LoJack unit doesn't have anything to do with the Porsche electronics, it has its own power source, its a stand alone unit.

i had it on my Benz and BMW and it did lower the insurance premiums a little... so over time it did eventually pay itself off and offered peace of mind
