Go with some nicer quality wheels like HRE, Mayas, etc. I've seen iForged in person, not a big deal. Should be called iForgedHREs, haha

Thumbs up

I like Essen. The quality is same as HRE because they are using same supplier that I know of. HRE is cost more because there is lot of extra marketing cost involved. Correct me If I am wrong.

BTW. I have Essen on my 997TT now. I have had that on my Murci before.

I find it interesting how you think a 3pc pressure cast wheel built in japan (Maya) is better quality than a 3pc forged wheel built in the US (iForged).

1317, you are correct, most if not all forged wheel companies (iForged,DPE,Jline, even the almighty HRE) get their barrels from the same manufacturer. Maya's should not even be put in the same field as these forged wheels. Like mentioned earlier, they are heavy bling cast wheels.

Actually I strongly disagree with your statement that Maya is not in the same class as HRE and iforged. Most wheel and tire guys will say that the fit and finish is better on Maya than the above mentioned. I have owned both and can vouch especially on the clear coat.

So the barrel manufacturer is the one making all the money!

I have I-Forged wheels on my Audi
would i ever buy I-forged again ? it depends
I-Forged and HRE , just so you guys know, have their barrels made from the same source...
they are a beautiful LOOKING wheel, but are not intended for the race track...
when i get my GT2, i will either be going to BBS magnesiums, or OZ S.L.3's , or MAYBE a set of fikse wheels

im not saying i wasn't happy with my wheels, its just that i couldn't take the vibration during the rain (yes i know, its because of a rolled lip design), and also, i don't think the fit and finish on custom wheels is as good as the wheels offered by BBS, OZ, etc

ive had my i-forged wheels for 2 years now
they got bent a couple times, the clear coat started coming off on one of them, and the wehels themselves were never EVER 100% balanced... there would always be a little vibration at a certain speed...

ive also had my BBS wheels for 2 years, they only got betn a little (but still held air), they never lost their clearcoat, and always drove true and straight

the one good thing about the custom wheels is the insane lip and offsets though

I think consumers are sometimes caught up in the name brand(good marketing campaigns) without looking into the quality. My experiences with Iforge - wasn't pleasant. I have many friends who would stay away because of the experience pre/post purchase as well as quality. I know I am a small sample of data but those people I know personally and trust their opinions. I have had great luck with HRE(outside of clear coats issues that they have now resolved with a new clear coat process). Maya is a very good brand when you look at the quality for the price. The barrels for some of the Maya's in the past were soft and bent more often. 4 to 5 inch lips have a tendency to do that I have heard they resolved that issue over the years.
BBS quality is always top notch from my experiences as well. Probably some of the best..

I am sure you will be fine with them if you like their styles.

I am sticking with Rinspeed for my future wheel purchase. I know nothing of them to be honest(first time purchase of them) but opinions of people I trust once again tells me I am on target with a quality wheel.

This board is also a great resource for honest opinions of things that work and things that don't work.

Just hate to be the guy that introduces a new product that doesn't perform here They will get more than they expected...

Good luck with your decisions and post pics when you got them...

A buddy of mine just bought a new set of I-Forged wheels and is having issues with balancing and a air leak coming out from the rivets. They look good though.

I will have to say that the quality of Maya wheels are superior in design and quality to HREs, I-Forged, BBS, OZ's etc. Just take a look at a set in person to compare. We put custom wheels on our cars all the time and we see the differences. Lowenharts are very good as well. Other than quality style is another preference that has to be compared. Not everyone will like the style from Maya. Modulare's and Zone makes very nice quality wheels for custom forged wheels.

Maya's in a different league thats all. They are 3pc, but they are not forged.

But dont get me wrong i've got a set on my X5 and i love them. They have the name engraved on the spokes, the centers are brushed, and the inserts are powder coated gunmetal, and the lips are anodized. For sure alot more detail on this wheel than any other wheel, i've ever seen. Oh and the center of the spokes have a line going through it, that are also gunmetal (called diamond cut))...

Here's a pic:

The clear coat has chipped in a few spots, and the center caps even though they are metal have started to have clear coat issues as well.

But for what' i paid i'm very happy...
