Just hate to swap out a non OEM windshield through the ins. co.
Sam,
If you have glass you should be able to get OEM glass. In fact I would insist. YOu may have to pay out of pocket first and get reimbursed but I've done it.

Had a crack on my E55 and needed it replaced. I'm paranoid about windshield replacement after seeing a "60 minutes" type show about shoddy glass work (mostly the "mobile" guys) and the severe consequences in the event of an accident. The glass is an integral component of the car's structure.

My ins. co. tried to send me to one of those places and I asked if it would be MB glass. they said no and I said "I pay ins. premiums for a MB and I expect MB glass". They said OK but If you want the dealer to do it and use OEM glass I'd have to pay out of pocket first. That's what I did.

I burned thru 4 windshields on my 996. all just bad luck. Mostly flying rocks on I-10!
The good thing was I got the OEM glass at the dealer, but it cost a little more.

I will be getting my windshield protected by Premier in the next few weeks (Premier Protective Films International (aka Premier Mobile) clear bra, paint protection film, tint, auto tint, safety film, chip paint, kits, custom, car). Our company is looking for ways to save money from windshield replacements, so this may be the solution we're looking for. It goes on the outside of the windshield and was demonstrated to us with an airgun and it was quite impressive. Going to post pictures once I get it on. I'll try to take pictures of the entire process if they allow me to do so.

True story, I'm driving down 610 today and about 1/4 mile ahead is a big truck loaded to the brim with rocks. No cover at all, what an A-hole, I just took the next exit cause I know how Porsches attract rocks!

When my car arrived in April I had the Proline Windshield film immediately put on my windshield. Have been on a couple "spirited drives" with other pcars in front of me spitting up gravel, etc. and it SAVED my windshield. Have a copule divits in the film but can replace it I estimate every two years. I really like the product, although am waiting for a replacement because mine did have some minor flaws in it that I was not happy with. I highly recommend this - no pit marks or anything and can preserve your original windshield.

I've had two windshields replaced on previous Porsches . Insurance covered it completely . I did not like the smell of glue an d would live with a small chip .

The worst ever I faced -- In my 95 993 I was strolling down I 95 and a out of nowhere a rock shot out from under a wheel of an 18 wheeler . It completely busted my front headlight , bounced onto the windshield and ruined that too .

I don;t know of any Venture sheild in South Florida and I won;t live with the 3M line on my car . Thus far I am chipless . I drove the car today in traffic on the highway behind trucks for an hour . Still chipless but driving with both eyes wide open.

my cayenne is 2 days old, i was driving 60mph today going home and a rock comes flying at me from a trailer truck one lane over and up a bit.
hit my windshield smack dab right in the middle! Cracked it right then and there, about the size of a nickel in damage. I was on the phone with a client and I started cursing out of the blue, heheh.

I cant believe it, I've never had any windshield damage before and the 1 time I'm driving slow and unaggressive it happens!

I have glass coverage from Geico though, so it'll only be $50

I have the same coverage but the smell of glue is very unpleasant. If the chip is small , even in the center I would leave it. If you just can't stand to see it ..I guess you have to replace it.

Just picked up the TT last week.. Did the tints today and had the guy do the windshield film also. It's cheap insurance, though I can tell it's there and it sorta makes things look wavey. But I guess it's better than a cracked windshield. Next, clear bra.
