eliminating lag

In order to activate overboost you need to step on the gas rapidly, but doing so makes the lag present until you build boost. If you dip into the throttle to build boost and then step on it, it sometimes won't go into overboost- you need a kind of slow than floor it fast approach to minimize lag.

What do you guys do to keep on boost and eliminate lag? Also, is there any trick to minimizing the lag between shifts - especially first to second.

Between shifts, you can use an antilag system. This is used in WRC and on subarus worldwide. However, it's kind of rough on the turbos, and makes a crazy backfire.

The whole way through this Gruppe B video, you can see and hear it in action. I love the wastegate sound, btw.

You can not use a system like this on our cars. Our BOVs are built in the turbos. Changing the ECU, headers and exhaust will help a 100 times over what the car is today.

Lag is just a part of life w/ turbos no matter how fancy the manufacturers marketing data is

if you worry about lag on the 997TT simply get a good reflash from Protomotive, GIAC etc. Lag will be reduced but bottom line is w/ turbos never illiminated. Coupled with a good exhaust including headers you will improve the spool up time over stock.

Best way to eliminate lag between the 1-2 shift is with a "flat shift" program found on most aftermarket ECUs. MoTeC and Autronic both have a great system.

It works by activating what amounts to a mild timing-based anti-lag between shifts. You just keep your foot planted and when the computer detects clutch disengagement, it activates a mild rev limiter and retards timing momentarily.

The result is insta-boost in every gear between shifts.

Not something you want to do with cats or any functional emissions equipment, though, as if you do it won't be functional for long.

Thanks for the input - is there any sort of driving technique to reduce the lag or is it just keep your foot planted and hold on.

I would like to emphasize that the GIAC/Headers/Exhaust DOES NOT eliminate the turbo lag. I have these mods and the lag is still a nag.

You can just keep it planted between shifts and tag the limiter a bit. Won't make the clutch especially happy, but it will reduce lag.
