Reasonable Discount off MSRP
#16
I asked for a price match at the order and they agreed and put it in writing along with cashing my deposit. They called me today and told me it was complete and gave me a VIN number. But you should have dealt with the pricing at the order because that is the right thing to do.
Not trying to be mean about it - but it is no different from building your house and then saying you will only pay them XXX dollars after they completed it and wanting your deposit back because they can't meet your expectations.
Good luck and take the car that YOU BUILT TO YOUR SPECIFICATIONS! - bite the bullet and take the car. Drive it and you will forget about the 3-5K Maybe not too soon - but eventually you will.

It makes sense to negotiate a discount before you order. However, If by the time the car is delivered, a discount has become standard among other purchases, asking for that courtesy is fair play. It just doesn' t seem right that a dealership should take advantage of an avid buyer who was willing to leave a deposit on a garunteed sale. Something just makes me ill when I think about handing over $5000, waiting patiently and not get the same treatment as someone who walks in off the street. How many times have any of us walked into a dealership on a browse and heard; "What will it take for you to buy this car today?" You know that there is a turbo on a showroom that will satisfy you that can be had at a discount, not to mention the flood of barely used about to hit showrooms with the cabrio/gt2 and ineviatable X51/S variants to come. This a case where the dealer could step up and create some good will with a small discount that would not hurt at all. If any sales persons read this please spare me the usual "pride in ownership"/strength of market BS. Most of us did not get here by being gulible to that kind of crap.

The discount you can get is highly dependent on regional factors. In some parts of the country, you'll be able to get discounts of up to $5000 or more. In others, getting much below MSRP is a real struggle.
If you're willing to talk to a bunch of dealers out of the area and pick the car up/ship it, you can get a substantial discount.
Check out Autoweek -- a lot of dealers advertise in the classifieds section.

I'm not seeing a lot of TTs around Houston, so I would guess they are still hard to come by. As far as I know there aren't any discounts on TTs around here. As soon as the cabs arrive that may change.

I agree with most of you. If someone orders a car with a deposit and a signed buyers order with an agreed price, they should take it for that price. As a dealer I would let the customer walk if they would try to negotiate a deal. It's just not right. If they didn't set a price (not so smart), the dealer and the customer should try to agree on a price according what the market is. At this moment, an 07 Turbo would justify some price consideration. Ordering a 2008 will be at full list again (since the limited production for 2008).
How do you like your car DJ996? Lovin' it??

Well guys....I'm driving the car. I basically told the dealer that they would lose out on ongoing business every 3 years for probably the next 30 years (i'm 32 currently) The dealer decided to give me my 5K off MSRP of 141K and I am driving the car. So far so good...can't really press it yet until I break it in a little but its solid and I do enjoy having a coupe that feels much more solid than my 04' Cab TT. So to sum it up, I guess there are some smart dealers out there that do believe in maintaining relationships.
One recommendation I can make to anyone still deciding on colors...pay the extra money for natural gray interior. It is slightly lighter than black but not gray. Slate with natural gray just looks awesome!
Thanks guys.
