I solved that "quirk" by going with the mods4cars module. Now I have fulll auto-up in addition to auto-down (which is already standard). I hated that small quirk of not being able to do full "up" after going past the halfway point.

Why is it a big deal to hold it up for less then 2 seconds?

Probably because most other luxury/sports cars have full auto-up.

The module is great and fixes a lot of stuff but I'm always leery of wiring into the OEM wiring so I'll stay with the extra step of holding the switch.

I am leery of anything electronic too but many others seemed to rave about it so I decided to jump the gun and get one. It was weeks before I finally got the nerve to get it installed. I haven't regretted it since then because it works beautifully.
