People stop trying to compare a M5 to a TT...Not even in the same league... Anyone telling you a stock M5 is faster than a stock TT is just in love with BMW period...BMW people need to stop this pipe dreaming. I've dusted a new M5 on the 101 N. freeway going to Santa Barbara in my 03 996 C4 cab Tip, rolling 60 mph to 130...It was close, 1 car length but he did not get in front. It's funny, that particular race felt really good when I got the best ofhim. believe it or not, BMW.

any new car can be driven hard right out the box just make sure you change the oil at the first 500 miles. turbos may need 100miles before WOT.

Charles, Welcome to the 6.. Just vary your RPMS in punching through the gears and change that oil at 500 miles as Don has said.. Gets rid of the shavings from the rings... Enjoy in the best of health and have fun!!

Car is tiptronic S, with sport chrono package, question is... when i accelerate the car, what i notice is that the turbo lag is very very very BAD! It doesnt want me to launch from 1000 - 3500 RPM. How is that a 3.4sec launch?! i dont feel the turbo is fast at all! .. Very dissapointed , i need answers now!

You are saying exactly the same thing on in reverse. You are basically saying that an M5 is not that much faster than your C4. I have been in both cars and that is simply nuts.

I was just saying that I pulled on an new M5 in my old 996 c4 from 60 mph to 130, someone made a comment on an older post that mabye the guy with the M5 didn't have the 100 horepower button pressed in the on position. Which might make sense given the weight difference. yacee james bond...

The TT should/will smoke any m3/5/6 on the planet stock for stock. Get some seat time in a rear engined 911 on the track, you'll never go back to a bimmer sedan.
good one

Yes, but its the gearbox that needs to get used to the engine. Take it easy for the first 1,500-3,000km

A new M5, in 500hp mode, would leave a 996 in all cases except off the line. Unless that 996 had a turbo... at which point it would be a drivers race.

Remember the car needs to get a few miles before the engine really wakes up. I've noticed a difference now I have about 5K miles....of course the Fabspeed exhaust and Evo headers help too!!

I noticed the same thing on the 997TT Tip. If you don't build up boost it will still be fast but not 0-60 in 3.5 fast...

If you want to see the boost build up get the boost guage to show up on your display.
Select 1st gear as your car may be starting in 2nd gear.
Hit the sport button (you have the sport chrono package).
Hold the brake all the way in with your left foot.
Hold in the gas and watch (and hear) the boost build. Once its boosted let off the brake and floor it.
This car launches very very consistantly and will tear off the line like no other.

Have fun!
