I burn a qt about every thousand miles or so, depends on how I'm driving the car. If I'm hitting the track then it will be more frequent. I broke mine in hard and it runs great.

I think a 0 w - should always be first in the viscosity grade of the oil for a late model Turbo, right? I wanted to use petroleum based oil in my '07 Turbo, but couldn't because the engine is designed for a 0w oil and conventional oil doesn't come in a 0w. I can't believe so few owners have had excessive oil consumption problems in the 997 model, with the old 3.6 l engine. And the 993 for that matter.

I think your on to something here E55 with the oil. Mine never used a drop right up to its first oil change at 7500kms recently. 800kms later the oil light comes on. I put it to the dealer what gives with their oil. They say they are using factory mobil 1...same as what was in it. Im not so sure. Either that or they never put enough in to begin with. Im keeping an eye on it now though .

My 2009 C2S required oil every 500 miles or so

My 2010 Turbo has not required a drop and I'm at 2000 miles.

Oil consumption- nikasil vs alusil cylinders

An '09 C2 S and a '10 Turbo both use the new 3.8 liter Alusil engine, or so I believe, so why the wide range of oil usage, I wonder. Once again there goes my theory of the Alusil vs Nikasil.

Sleep easy on the liners. The liners have nothing to do with it unless there is ovality or a ra problem, both issues extremely unlikely in this instance.

Does anyone know why the 3.8 L engine has 10,000 mile oil change intervals and the 3.6 L engine has 20,000 mile intervals?

We have a 2010 C4S and 2010 turbo both with 6000 mi. Changed oil at 3K, both have not lost a drop of oil.

Only problem is unrelated to this thread but both developed squeaks in the convertible top at same time mid summer. There are some posts under the metal boot cover that require lub and there is a service bulletin out on this.

Other than that smooth sailing!

+1

The E60 M5 was an oil guzzler for sure. Worse, it was a gas guzzler as well. 4k miles on my '09 and only 1 bar missing, but I do carry a quart of Mobil 1, old habits die hard...

My CL63 uses a quart every 7-800 mi and get 11 mpg on a good day. When I step on the gas I can watch the needle move. Reminds me of a '72 Caddy!

Oh, that brings back the memories; my M5 did the same, fuel & oil.

My turbo S only has 1100 miles, but still shows full on oil. Can't help but hammer occasionally, as this car BEGS to be run hard. 2000 miles are coming soon when I can really have some fun. Wifey will be busting out laughing when she has to bail me out of jail for excessive speed!

Best thing is sport plus/A. It will shift from 1st to 2nd around 7K. You'll think you're about to launch into orbit.
