You guys are putting ne on the fence again! I just took a bath on my '03 Turbo X-50 (29k miles) that I sold to a private party for $74k in May (the car stickered new at $152k but I paid 114k in Feb '05 with 8k miles.

Now I'm considering taking a brand new '08 coupe slot for a car I've optioned at $145k. I've asked for 5% off (Porsche of Arlington) but they won't budge.....although he would throw in one piece of Tequipment!

I know depreciation is a fact of life and I'm prepared for the fact that this will be a $100k car at best in years but Shark01's post has me thinking....don't do it!

2. dealer makes more money on used car than new.

Brad, are you talking about porsche of arlington in Va? Don't believe a word they say. They are so full of it. When I went in to talk to them about the 997tt, they had 5 of them in their storage lot in crystal city. Other dealers are marking down 997tt's up to 9k. They are a tiny dealer, and 99% of the their customers who say they want a gt2, gt3, turbo, bail when the cars come in. Mark, the british sales guy there calls me all time.....but they'll tell you "all the cars are presold"

As far as 996tt prices vs 997tt prices you can't really compare. You have to remember, when the 996tt came out, there hadn't been a turbo available for 4 years. The 993tt ended production in 97, and the 996 didnt come out till 01. I remember when I bought mine in july of 01, they were asking 169k, for a car with a sticker of 124k. Pretty crazy. The 997tt values will absolutely drop, just like the 996tt. Porsche is not a company making small batch, unique vehicles anymore, unless you want to pay 45k over for a gt3rs!

 

Fact of automotive life that the first year depreciation is the largest. As soon as you drive off the lot and stop seeing their hands waving good-bye, you know you've taken a HIT!!!

Only Ferraris seem not to depreciate in first 2 years or so (look at 430s and 599s)

Relax, drive your damn cars, if you want an investment, buy real estate. Anytime you trade any car into a dealer you will get ****ed jailhouse style, fact of life.

This one just sold on the bay for $99K.. it was brand new! Sticker price of $174K

Cars are not investments, they are what you spend your dividends on.

 

Remember to look at the tax advantage, if any, of trading depending on the state you live in. In GA you don't pay sales tax on the value of the trade. So, in my county I pay 7% so with a $100K trade that saves $7K on the new purchase.

I will give fair-good condition, he did drive everyday. There is no dent or ding on the car but certainly few rock chips are sitting on the front part. But he hand wash the car every 2 weeks, this is for sure I know.

I don't know his driving style by himself along, but at least when I am with him he drive smooth and safe....
