StrtSwpr997,

Were you stock when you guys did the runs? Also did the 335 have any other mods besides the chip? I have heard they put down around 400 wheel with chip, downpipe, intercooler, and full exhaust.

It sounds like I should be pretty happy with both cars :-D

From what I have been told and read, I am under the impression four-wheel drive is a waste of money because it actually causes the car to handle "worse" than the rear wheel drive. You recommended the 335xi as opposed to the 335i though. Could you please comment?

I've had a 335i coupe for about 7 months now. So far I love it. It is a fantastic daily driver, and it has more than enough gadgets to keep you happy. It handles well, has great balance, good road feel, and fantastic acceleration. That said, I REEALLY want a 997s. I really don't think you can compare the cars. They're both great, but in different ways. I will be taking the 335 to DE events starting next spring, so then I'll be happy to comment on how well I keep up with the porsche folks. I'll be doing plenty of DE's with the PCA considering my father in law is a track junky with a 996 c4s. If capable, I would say 997s over a 335i hands down. But in terms of bang for buck, the 335i does have quite a lot to offer.

Also, if you don't need AWD in the 335, don't get it. I believe it's designed more for all weather driving than track performance (at least that's how it feels on the wife's X3). I've driven the C4S on the track, and the AWD is amazing for bailing you out of situations where the back end gets squirrely. It is definitely a performance oriented AWD system.

I don't think you can compare the two. the 911 is an icon and the fit, finish and handling is at another level, comparing to 335. The looks and comments you get in your porsche is priceless. Coming from a BMW, the porsche is better in everyway, well, except for 0-60, the 335 might win on the straight. But in the turns and track, the porsche will beat the 335. Unless the 335 got coilovers and BBK upgrade and LSD. Then its a different story.

you cant really compare them, but the 335 is a good daily driver, i personally think the interior needs a lot of work (like most of bmws current line up inside and out). the exterior looks are good tho. the 997 is the better performer though without question. straight line driving is boring, plus the 335i coupe is like 3600+ lbs, big difference when comparing to s 3100-3200 lb car.

"tho. the 997 is the better performer though without question. straight line driving is boring, "

That's why you get a SUPERCHARGER!

Yep Yep. Cures acceleration boredom in one dose. However, medication strongly addictive.

I see you live in NYC where you see snow every year alot, AWD is a good option to have unless you have a SUV to drive around in the winter.

You are right, NY does a lot of snow and AWD would be safer.

ToddPhilly above seems to confirm that it is true that 335i handles better than the 335xi though (excluding adverse weather driving conditions).

I am the personnal shopping assistant: select a couple or three cars to chose from and then let my wife pick one. Would like to see it be the 335i :-D

I had GIAC software and bypass pipes. The 335 had a chip and exhaust i think. highway runs were good but for some reason they werent doing so well in the 1/4. Some of it had to do with traction issues but they were not trapping so high (104 - 106) as opposed to my 111mph.

Guys ,My buddy just picked up his 335i a month ago and next week we are going the English town to race the quarter mile against my 06 997.I will keep you upated after we run. I am not worried I don't think he will be able to take me with the 335i.And I am almost postive that the stats posted by the cars manufacturers show that 997 is faster at the 0-60 and the quarter mile.
