Can mp3s be played in a 2006 Porsche radio ?

I have both a 2006 Cayman S with the CDR-24 radio plus the disc changer and a 2006 C2S with nav and changer. Both are supposed to play mp3 cds. I cannot get either to do so. I am trying to play them in the single dash slot. I have burned them on different cds. I have burned them on a pc and a Mac using different programs. I have read many posts saying that both radios should be able to play mp3s. Is there some light that can be shed on this by anyone ?
The nav unit is the newer style with the SOS button.

So what's the deal ?

Seems like some people can play them and some can't. There must be some commonality.
I have been burning mine on a Mac. Burning at 128K. Using CDR discs of several types.

My 06 Carrera S plays them but stopped after retro-fitting NAV onto my PCM. They replaced my PCM then it started playing mp3s again.

My service guy told me that there was a glitch in some of the PCM's and the software needed to be upgraded. Here's the campaign number: W610.

Bring it up to your porsche service guy and let them update the software. it might start playing afterwards.

BTW past threads show that burning w itunes doesn't fair too well. i use NERO on windows and it plays all the time.

I am able to play burned CD's on my 07 997S, maybe you just need a firmware update.

Burned CD's work fine on mine. I was thinking the OP meant more-so a CD containing MP3's stored as data files.

They work on mine... before and after I retro-fitted the Nav.

My 06 came with nav and I didn't have any problems playing MP3s. I burned them in folders, single tracks, using Toast on a Mac, using Roxio and Nero with a PC.... never had a problem.

I called the local dealer,Napleton Porsche, and was told by the service writer that Porsche did not support MP3 playing in their cars. YET.
The 2008 vehicles are supposed to do that.
Curiouser and curiouser. Why do some do it and others not ?
Does the fitting of the BOSE interfere?
Could it be the disc changer?

They're wrong. mention the W610 Campaign Service update and they will see that Porsche does indeed support mp3s and even provided a flash software upgrade to repair broken modules. Mp3/WMA icons even appear once you play mp3s.

You can also fnd a service person that knows what they are talking about. The person you spoke to may be talking about the ipod adapter due for next year.

BTW the changer has NEVER played mp3s. Only the single disc drive on the PCM itself plays mp3s which is why many didn't purchase the changer in the first place.

Thanks for the info. I am going to give this a try. I really don't understand the writer speaking with such authority but maybe he is poorly informed.

Sorry Grap. Didn't mean to come off "authoritative". i was in a rush when i typed and left for work that's all

Plus this issue really frustrated me in the past (it was the only car problem i had with the 997S and they initially had no solution for it at the time). i just wanted to save you the trouble of experiencing the same frustration.

Cheers!

Spyder: I do not know why you are apologizing. By "writer" I meant the service writer for the dealership, not you.
I am now trying to figure out if I have PCM 2.1 or something else. Why did the dealership not want the warranty business from this upgrade ? Could it be hedid not know about this ? He seemed experienced.
