Anyone that just got a gt3 bumper install was wondering if your vents shows this






is it safe and water proof? I am not sure if the wiring is water resistant.

Hi Andy,

What you see is the wiring for the Homelink receiver. I have actually peeked through the vent of a factory GT3 and the receiver and wiring are also visible. I do not believe there is an issue here. The installer could have been a little more aware and pulled or straightened the wires before the cover went on just for appearance.

I did the GT3 bumper cover install myself so I took the time to get everything in order before I did the final bolt on. First, I did a couple of test fits to see what was visible through the vent. I relocated the Homelink receiver approximately a foot closer to the left (looking at the bumper) so it was not visible through the vent. I also relocated the emergency hood release motor (also to the left) so it would not be visible through the vent. And finally I sprayed a coat of flat black paint on the aluminum bumper assembly because I knew people would look to see what was in there.

Enjoy the new bumper just watch those driveways!!!

 

so it shouldn't be any issues with it being open the the weather ?

 

No issues... I am sure others will confirm this.

Before I installed my cover, I inspected the wires and connectors because I had similar worries. The connectors are rubber sealed and designed to keep water out. Factory GT3 is the same way.

Cool that you did it yourself. I have a carbon fiber vent that I tracked down, only to see that it won't fit mine correctly without major surgery (I have a supercharger). You or anyone else interested in a carbon vent? It looks awesome. I can get picks up if anyone's interested.

How did you fasten the homelink receiver when you moved it? I do remember there was a DIY of this move, but I have searceht without any hits.

I do not know of a DIY so I will tell you my experience from what I can remember. The Homelink is mounted in a plastic holder which can simply be unbolted and relocated approx. 8-10 inches closer to the passenger headlight so not visible through the GT3 vent. I remember I had to slightly modify the plastic Homelink holder to be able to tuck in an opening near the headlamp. I mounted the holder to an existing screw and used a washer on the holder to spread the load on the plastic. No drilling was needed. The Homlink unit is not very heavy and there is enough wiring so the new location looks very clean and works perfectly. The mod is very easily done. One caution is the new location for the Homelink is close to the bumper parking/turn and fog light assembly so make sure it clears before final mounting off the bumper cover. Sorry no detail pictures, but with the bumper cover off you will see it is not a big deal!

that looks great... i cant wait to get mine. the shop is doing it so i doubt they will be as diligent. How hard is it to remove the front cover if i wanted to relocate the wires and trunk release and spray paint the unside myself?

 

Its very easy. There are some DIY with pictures in this forum.
