Z06 to Carrera S

Z06 to Carrera S
I was proud owner of a 2007 Corvette Z06, black/black. I recently totalled it, decided to replace it with a used 911 Carrera S. I hope I dont regret my decision. Have any of you made a similar transition? I really liked the power of the 427 7 liter, but as daily driver it was too much IMO. I only plan to track my cars twice a year.

I was going to purchase a new Z06 but my dad convinced me to take a few 911's for a drive before I did. He had a 911 years ago and has always regreted selling it. I ended up purchasing a 2007 997 C2 and I dont regret it one bit. I've got an arctic silver 6 speed with 19" wheels, bose high end system, bi-xenon lights, heated seats, black leather interior. I do Sunday drives to the mountains of NC and Virginia with a group of guys that include 3 honda s2000's, 2 M3's, a couple of modded cobra mustangs, and a Mazda RX8. A few of these guys are crazier than I am but I can still leave them on one section we drive thats 24 miles long with 489 turns just because my car is better all around. I also love to drive my 911 around town more so than I probably would a vette just because it is a 911. The rear seat has been great for me also as I have a 5 year old daughter that loves to ride in the car with me and her mother. This would not have been an option in the vette. I did test drive a Z51 vette and it had incredible torque but I feel I made the right decision. I have been thinking about my next car already and I have narrowed it down to four cars. A 997 GT3, a new ZR1, a new Nissan GTR, or a 997 Turbo. I am leaning toward a used 997 GT3 when I can get one for around 100K.

I did the same and haven't regretted it. The ZO6 is a great car but the temptation to do something stupid is always there because of its massive torque. When I found myself doing 100 mph in a 40 simply because it felt so good to punch it, I decided then and there to sell it. I also wasn't happy with the size of the car. It felt clunkly at low speed and I was never happy with the "marbles-in-a-can" sound Vettes make when engaging the clutch. The 997S I bought feels like a precision machine in comparison, like something I put on rather than sit in. The ZO6 is a terrific car to drive fast but it leaves a lot to be desired (in my opinion) for every day use. The 997S on the other hand leaves a smile on my face each and every time I drive it.

I cross shopped the Z06. Insane, easy power. I didn't think I would enjoy it that much away from the track though.
The full leather interior of the 997 is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> than the Z06. Haven't seen the '08 interior in person yet though.
You can go @ 4/10s in that car and still get arrested.

I personally have no comparision between the vette and 911. I guess if you just want power with wheels on a straight line then go for the vette but if you want class, performance, handling, and overall enjoyment than 911 is the only way to go....but than again thats just my opinion.

Glad to hear from someone who has been in a Z06 and in a C2S. A GT3 would be a no-brainer for me. I wish I could afford it. When you first got the C2S what did you think?

I agree 100%. I had an '07 Z06 for a short while and it was a blast to drive hard. Sold it to do some upgrades to my house and most likely won't buy another one. Unless you track the car, you can't begin to use even 75% of its performace capabilities on public streets without fear of going to jail. I absolutely hated the noisy transmission in the thing too. Once you have enjoyed German engineering, its hard to live without it.
I'll be back in a Pcar in a year or two.
