I'm assuming since you posted this in the 997 section you know the difference between the 996 and 997. As most have posted, if the badging hasn't been removed or changed (can't imagine why someone would change Carerra 4 S to Carerra S), the badging on the rear deck will answer your question. If the car is a 997 and the badging says Carerra S then the car is not a Carerra 4 S.

Thanks.
All these answers to your question and I just figured out looking at your signature line ("996 - next up") that you're in the wrong section. Ask you question in the 996 section - we've been trying answer your question based on knowledge of 997's.

Ahh, did you read my post? I posted that there is a huge difference just being a little colorful.."Also you can't miss the *** on that thing, you can put a glass on the rear haunches of that thing."

As far as the 05's not having the Carrera 4S on the back is news to me...I thought they still had it as I have a friend who has one.
There is badging though..unless someone was being stealthy and removed it.

Your post was not there when I was posting (doorbell rang while I was typing), we basically said the same thing.
Edited original post to clarify.
Cheers

For a car that is parked, you can always look through the front wheel and spot the extra drive axle!

As spyder997s also mentioned, I always look for the black rocker panels. I believe only a small percentage of C4/S have the painted rocker option so chances if it is a "wide body" car the rockers will be black.

Good Luck!

Since your being serious the best way isn't tires. I have 305's on my C2S. Check the Offsets at the valve stem the approx numbers are C2S ET67 a C4S ET51.

Thanks for all of the input! The car I was looking at was a C4 (too bad), it had the partial black rocker panels. If anyone knows of a C2 launch car with less than 15K miles, please PM me.

It never was clear - "996 - up next" or "997 - up next"?? Good luck with your search.

I'm open to either a '04 996 40th or an '05 997 launch.

You can tell by looking at the rear tail lights. The lights are flush on a C2 and on a C4 there is approx. 1/2 reveal on the outside of the lens vs. the fender.

I was never sure that the "delete model designation", option 498 was a stand alone option - I thought that badge delete had to be ordered together with the "painted model designation rear lid", option CUC. Has anyone ever ordered just option 498?

No, just a fact pointed out to me prior to purchasing my C4. Just thought it might save the others on this thread some time. Measuring tires and looking for front drive axles, "right".
