Question about lighter flywheel?

Hi. What are the advantages and disadvantages of a lighter flywheel.

Replacing the clutch on my 9974S after 30,000 "spirited" miles. Friend suggested I do the lighter flywheel at the same time.

Suggestions? Any help appreciated in advance.

Pros-
The revs rise and fall quicker.
Quicker throttle response.
Easier heel/toe downshifts.

Cons-
Faint rattles at idle. (A con to some, but not all)

Email me for more info and pricing. I hope this helps with your decision.

How much stop-and-go do you do? Another (fairly important) con, will be an increased difficulty in launching the car from a dead stop. Precisely synchronizing the gas and clutch will become more important as the car will lug easier as a result of its ability to rev quicker (Newton's action/reaction comes into play).

Is it normal for the clutch to be replaced at only 30k miles?

I'd rather have the stock clutch last 60k miles than go out at 30k to be honest.

just had the lwfw and sport spring clutch put in our '99 996. i wouldn't go back to OEM after driving w/ the lwfw. yes, some chatter at low rpm's or at idle, but the benefits of it are worth it IMO.

i think if you aren't a clutch rider...you'll be fine. i think if the clutch went out at 30K, perhaps a previous owner tended to ride it a bit.

good luck!

it was $1000 for the lwfw upgrade at our pcar shop. =)

The guys on rennlist.com's 997GT3 forum seem to be paying $3,500 for an installed LWFW. How was your's so inexpensive? What your secret?

^^^rick,

my install of the sport spring clutch and the lwfw came to $3200 total. if i had gone with the clutch and the oem fw it would have been $2200. i was just saying the upgrade was an additional $1K.

=) hope that helps?

In normal driving habit clutch OEM clutch should last 50K-60K miles. For racing on short track, AX or just plain aggressive driving at every stop light clutch will wear out 20K-30K miles. I see clutch replaced at 17K miles because the owner is street racing fool.
