Yes, the shocks were replaced under warranty. Still not sure what the cause of the problem was, but part of the reason I am looking at the Bilstein Damptronic is there warranty.

The exclusions for the referenced warranty included off-road use, racing or driving competition. Does this encompass driver events, autocross or drag strip usage? Most users will not install coilovers unless they participate in these types of events. The stated exclusions may render the warranty null and void for the purpose the product was purchased. Coverage for actual race cars cannot be expected.

It would be highly desirable that Bilstein publish their position on this important issue. Purchasers should insist upon it or not buy. An alternative would be for the reseller to cover the warranty issues that Bilstein is unwilling to assume.

Also to be considered is Porsche's responsibility under the new car warranty. Should diagnosis of a problem with the car be found to be the fault of a defective non-Porsche part, they certainly have no responsibility to put it to rights. They would also be well within their rights to charge the owner for any service time or expenses utilized.

 

Quick update guys and gals:

My defective Bilstein suspension is now repaired and re-installed in the car, and it feels great! Bilstein covered the repair under warranty and did a great job of sending it back to my dealer. Many thanks goes out to Bilstein, Eric at Stead Porsche, and Mike at AWE.

After being on stock suspension for the last few weeks, it feels good to be lowered again. I can't believe that the stock suspension felt "floaty" in comparison, but it really does compared to the Bilsteins.

It's good be back in business! So far, so good and there are no more PASM failure fault messages. I think I'll take it out for another drive right now, just to test it out

 

What do you mean when you say "floaty"? Please elaborate.

 

The stock suspension felt looser when flooring the car and powering out of corners (e.g. I could feel the chassis try to catch up with the rest of the car when taking off fast, if that makes sense).

Now with the Bilstein Damptronics, the car is lowered, better composed, steering is tighter and more dialed in, and the car is just a joy to drive now (even more so than before with the stock suspension).

As I mentioned before, I never thought that the suspension could be improved before, but now that I've experienced these coilovers, it's hard to go back.

To sum things up, the car is more confidence inspiring and even more well planted than it was before. I highly recommend this upgrade.

 

Charles, I think I know what you are saying, my first 997 was lowered with Techart Springs and the car felt more stable. At higher speeds I found that the front end felt light, with the springs it felt like the front end was more in control. I am waiting for my Dampteonics to arrive from Bilstein, I can't wait to get the car on the track.

HOW MANY OF YOUR SHOCKS WERE DEFECTIVE ?
I have been having the same issues , 1 of my rears was replaced under warranty but the other one was not as i did not know it had a problem too . It seems it is the wire that is connected at the top of the rear shocks.
I thought the problem was fixed as i had to bend the wire to one side to have it make contact , it works then once in a while ange getting worse goes to pasm failure.
I will be talking to one of ye german engineers at Bilstein on monday to see about replacing that one .
I can also recomend to everyone to have the wire covered w/ some sort of split loom perferable one that has some kind od padding to keep the wire from being pinched .

To date, I've only read that myself plus 3 others here had defective PSS Damptronics. Although relatively rare on this board, it definitely DOES happen.

The wire issue you mentioned seemed to be a problem for me too. My issue was that these are supposed to be track duty coilovers. If they break on street driving, they obviously have issues.

The bottom line though is that Bilstein came through with great customer service and repaired my shocks under warranty.

To date, I have not had anymore PASM failures since the repair.
