Ny vote goes to the 997 . In my opinion the rear engine Porsche 911 is a car that offers a very unique experience . The car's seamless acceleration , it's structure and build, and its balance make it my choice seven times over the last 14 years . I have yet to find a blind spot . A guy 6'3" will fit more comfortably and the cabin adds a touch of space. For a sports car it is actually very comfortable and it's engine note is classic . To me buying a Porsche 911 is my way of capturing a piece of automotive history decades long .
I won't criticize the Cayman S either . It is a very fine car but if I bought one I would ALWAYS wonder about the 911 but the visa versa would not be the case.
Good luck in either choice.

also, if it makes any difference, when i was in the market for a cayman s, the salesman told me he could sell me a regular carrera for not much more than a loaded cayman s, because they don't deal on cayman s's as greatly as they do 997's. so you will probably get a much better deal, speaking in terms of margins, as opposed to the Cayman S.

I have a 997S and a Boxster S.
If you are 6'3", you might really want to visit the dealer and sit in both cars. The 997 has more room to slide/tilt back the driver seat (thanks to the extra room from rear seats) than the 987. For tall folks, it might be a big factor to choose between these two cars.
But then, all 997 came with a sunroof that steals away a little headroom...
It is a very personal fit & comfort thingy, try sit into both cars to feel for yourself. Moreover, try to drive both cars, both are great & different cars and in many cases the choice is also very personal & different.
With best regards,

Since you have both 997 and 987... can you please give some more of your opinions pro's/con's of the two. I'm deciding between a 2008 Boxster S or possibly a '05 or '06 997 (maybe S). I'm thinking the 997 would be a bigger/better car in many ways...but since you have & drive both.... what are your opinions. The Boxster S has the handling, convertible top, maybe better "fun" factor?
whats your thoughts?
Thank you....

I would go with a 911 Carrera when put in a similar situation to yours, it looks more prestigious and has more horsepower if speed is your main aim. By settling for the Carrera you get two small rear seats but honestly it doenst suite the majority of adults, however you can place a bag, groceries and other items in there rather than opening the bonnet up front.

For me I wanted to want a Cayman but at 6'1"+ and 34 " inseams I settled on a C2S and I am very very happy. In other words I sat in a Cayman and I felt cramped. I sat in the 911 and fit perfect. Even my 6'8" son can fit in the 911.
If you fit in a Cayman or a Boxster they are great cars.

I think the caymen is a smaller intertior? at least it feels that way... the boxster seemed larger, more comfortable, leg room, etc.... both are beautiful cars...tough to decide
thanks for your thoughts all...

I'm in the same boat. I currently have a Cayman S on order but I am also 6'3" and am having second thoughts because of the lack of space in the Cayman. The 997 seems to have much more legroom and the back seats are a plus with my 2 young boys. I am now seriously considering a lightly optioned 997 C2.
