Moved from a Boxster S to a 997 S
I had been pondering a 997 for a while – the 06 Boxster S is a great and after carefully watching the inventory list at my local dealer for a while I saw one that was very close to what I wanted (I probably could have lived without the chrome exhausts!). After much thought I drove over to the dealer took a test drive in the 911 I wanted. It was a beautiful day and beautiful car. Some haggling ensued and three days later I went to pick up the new car.
Three days later it was a sunny 65F in Northern CA, it was top down all the way to the dealer in the Boxster. I must admit I ran the Boxster up to 7200 RPM in 2nd and 3rd and gunned it on a nice on ramp (no cars on Highway) and took full advantage of the cars handling on the off ramp on the way to the dealer so it was a nice goodbye to the Boxster, fond memories. I will probably track this car but not quite aggressively as the Boxster so maybe I will be on the lookout for an older 986 to turn into a street legal track car – that will be a project for 09.
The drive back was great it was getting a little cold, the 911 is quite a nice piece of machinery. The car felt familiar but at the same time different the low end torque is really good. Of course I was a good boy and keep the revs down below 4200 rpm. I will break it in old style – no cruise control and a good mix of revs and gears, the first 1000 miles I will be very cautious and over the next 1000 miles I may explore briefly up to 5000 rpm, after 2000 miles look out! I want (need!) a track fix in May so I will have to take some long runs so far I have had the car a little over a week and have managed 350 miles. My travel schedule will limit my driving but I will just have to work at it a bit when I am home.
Here are some pictures:
This will not be a daily driver (my trusty Benz has that role) but I will drive it quite bit including AutoX and some track events (I am looking forward to trying out the sport button at the track). My Boxster had 19s but no PASM, I must admit PASM is impressive..
Mods will be limited, so far I have had a clear Bra installed (XPEL and about 50% of dealer cost E-Mail if you want details) and I signed on to the “Smart Top Group Buy” the Boxster top controls are definitely friendlier in stock form. Later I will probably do an intake (EVO), chip the engine and add the plenum from Sharkwerks.

I too just made the same change from a Boxster S to 997S. (mine is a coupe but the same color). What a great car I wish I had done it sooner. I am also waiting to get mine to the track so maybe I will see you there.
Cool new ride, have fun.
