I had one installed in my car last week. I bought it for exit speed on the track. Can't wait to try it out on the track.

I have heard of the manual upgrade but the Tiptronic is quite different from what i hear. Since all the 997tt Tip cars do NOT have LSD the question was raised on the Turbo forum. Now the car does have AWD which complicates the upgrade further .

My feeling is that 20 hours of labor plus the part might be worth passing up unless one really is set to track the car. Plus if the car is an AWD car like a C4S or Turbo I somewhat think its nice to have but not a necessity . AWD cars have PTM which engages in traction situatioins and the axle lock is mainly used in situations where the turn contrast is so sudden that PTM hasn't caught it yet (ie a hairpin high speed sharp S turn ).

If searching used cars and finds acar he loves this ought not be a dealbreaker.

Hi, hope everthing going ok with your car,

finally i`ve purchased the quaife diff for my 997s, but having some difficulties while installation, my official service says that they need extra tooling and also some extra parts for installation of this diff. They say that while dissambling the old diff there is noway to take it out without damaging some bearings etc. and those bearings need to be replaced with the new ones and after that very precise adjustment is required for which they might need some shims etc.

if you have any suggestion or idea or step by step procedure for installation , i will be very glad. or if you can forward me your technicians contact details.

Thank you

I can't speak for the Porsche as I haven't taken the diff out of one, but what they are saying is true of most differentials. My experience (Audi and BMW) is the manufacturer usually sells a shim kit, which will have various thicknesses to get the ring/pinion placed right, this is important. Also, there is a bearing pressed onto the differential, this has to be pounded off, and they are right, it's likely you will not want to re-use it. The bearing and shims should be marginal, might as well replace while you are that deep anyways. Other possible parts are screws for the ring Not sure what "tooling" they need, if they aren't equipped to service the differential, I wouldn't have them do the work.

If you are in a tough area, there are lots of shops that will do a swap for you, if you can be out of the car for a few weeks, ask if they'll do a core swap, if not, find a place that can remove your differential housing and ship that off to a shop that can replace the differential and send it back. This is usually done "dry" so also get some differential fluid.

RyanS4 is correct..this is pretty much the story with any diffy that is being replaced. Usually you have to buy the bearing kit with the diffy for reinstall.

i haven`t received any bearing kit but a friend of mine believes that without damaging the old bearings it is possible to reuse them, as far as i understand it is a matter of technical experience

Your friend is both right, and wrong. IF the bearings were undamaged, of course they could be reused. But they will be. Or likely, they will be. And it may so subtle that you won't know. Until you put it all back together. And drive it. For a while.
Please, you've paid and inconvenienced quite yourself quite a bit to do this modification. I strongly recommend you do it right.
