Paint for "911" emblem/badge for rear deck lid
I just got the 911 emblem which I want to replace with the Carrera but its black. I want to paint it red. Anyone recommend any paint I can use which will not fade and is of good quality?
Thanks

Use a piece of Dental Floss to remove the emblem, it won't scratch the paint.

Can you reuse the emblem? If so, how do you fasten it to the decklid?

I just did this on the rear of my 996, put on the "911" emblem, which was black plastic.
Removal of Carrera emblem:
used dentalfloss to remove "carrera" emblem, then a bit of car-safe bug and tar remover to take off the sticky residue.
Then used some 3-M fine-cut swirl remover to remove the soft outline of "carrera" from the paint. total removal time was about an hour, but then again I am totally OC with this shet.. lol.
I used JDM "platinum metallic" bumper and trim paint in the small rattle can from Pep Boys for the paint. I also bought a can of spray adhesion promotor. This is really good to use to ensure a durable finish.
I highly recommend starting with a new emblem, they are not expensive for the black plastic 911.
Remove the plastic top cover from the 911 logo, this is ok because it is still stuck to the white backing paper.
The top plastic will leave sticky crud on the emblem so you'll need to clean the emblem surface with Goof-Off or a bit of paint thinner.
You'll get a lot of black crud off the 911 emblem in the process. Good.
Now lay it on a table and spray with adhesion promotor. give it a couple of light coats, let dry.
Give 5 or 6 *light* coats with the trim paint. Start with the edges and sides of emblem and do face surfaces last. Give it about 15 mins between coats. knock off any dust specs with your (clean) finger between coats, after the coat has dried.
After your 6th coat you'll have a nice looking emblem, give it several hours to dry (I gave it a day).
Ready to apply:
Use some wide blue painters tape and lay 3 or 4 strips horizontally across the "911" face, stacking the layers on top of each other. You are re-creating the clear plastic cover so when you remove the white backing to expose adhesive, the logo will stay in place for application.
Press onto body of car and hold down for about 60 seconds. (this assumes you have already marked the center line of your car where you want the logo to attach).
If you need an easy way to find center line, take 10ft of white string, tie a washer to one end and let that hang off rear bumper. Take the other end of string and tape to center mark on top of rear back glass. Let string hang down car and walk back 10ft and eye-ball the string, move it L/R until you've eyeballed the center, then make a couple of marks on your engine lid with a crayon or tiny pieces of the blue tape to mark center right above and below where you will stick the logo.
On your 911 logo with tape over the front of it, meaure and use a pencil/pen to mark the vertical center of logo with a line.
Move string, remove white backing, line up center marks on trunk lid with the center line drawn on tape over logo, then press in place.
Slowly peel cover tape off after 60 seconds, wax around area, and you're done!

You can reuse it but it's a pain, and IMO it's not worth doing. The roll of 3M trim adhesive you'll need will cost about half of the logo new, and there is a lof of "tweaker" work involved with prepping the removed logo.
buy a new one.
