Anyone NOT happy with the Plenum?

I'm wondering if I'm in a minority of 1 in being deeply disappointed with this item.

I've read a lot of posts from people who are delighted with this product - 'makes a big difference', 'best bang for buck' are typical of the types of comment. This from people whose opinions I have learned to respect from reading and contributing to this forum.

I put it on the car yesterday afternoon - took about 25 mins. Everything lined up nicely, all the hose clamps tightened, airbox back on, MAF and valve electronics / pipework reconnected. fired the car up. Idles nice and smooth, no air leaks - this I'm going to enjoy....... Errr, not!

The car pulls less well right across the rev band. Not by much, but noticeably. Gone is the big slug of midband torque that appeared when I put on the AWE cats. Doesn't rev quite so cleanly at the top.

Check for leaks again, check everything's lined up, check the elecronics are all connected correctly - no issues. The damned car is just plain slower. I can't think of anything I might not have done correctly - fitting this part isn't rocket science; it's just a t-shaped piece of pipe!

I'm going to do a full DME reset today and see if that helps, otherwise there's a plenum up for sale.

Hi Ian,
I've had no problem on my S.
As you have said, they are not hard to install,Once I had fitted mine I checked it all again and, with the plenum and T/B inplace but without the airbox connecting pipework, I opened the throttle plate and there was a "lip" between the end of the T\B and the plenum.
I slackened the T\B bolts and moved it (with the throttle held open) Until there was a nice smooth interface.
I'm not suggesting you have this problem, I just wanted to let you know it's possible.
Regards
Simon

Many thanks for the feedback - I will check for proper alignment later. It's just the sort of thing that makes a difference.

Ian,

From what I can read you are saying installation is not that hard, if that's the case -
1. I would put it back to NO plenum and see how the car acts.
2. Check Simon's suggestion
3. Call the vendor for support
4. If you are not happy then don't sell it to someone, just return it.

my 2cents.

Don't forget also they need up to 50 miles to "adapt".
Greg recommends a soft reset the 3rd and 4th gear pulls from 1500rpm to redline.
I didn't do a soft reset and in the first 10 miles or so,I had some "stuttering" at partiall throttle in the midrange. This soon cleared up.
I guess that was the "adapting"

Plenum Response

Greetings 6 Speeders and Ian,

Although some of the Porsche plenums produce slightly varied power gains (I.e the 997 Turbo) the 997 and 997S had consistently been delivering 26 hp gains to all customer cars. We always offer a 100% money back guarantee on all plenum models. We can honestly say that we've never had a 997 (S) plenum returned and we've sold a large number of these model plenums. Ian, It sounds like you've check all the usually suspects for problems but drop me an PM and I will be happy to look deeper into the issues you are experiencing. There is definitely something wrong, and it's not the plenum. Power gains should look like the graph below.

Cheers,

I'd really like an ipd plenum with an inlet diameter to match the x51 T\B.

Thank you for the response and the offer of assistance, I will be in touch over the next couple of days. I'm sure there's something that just needs sorting - as I said in my original post, I respect the opinions of everyone else here enough to realise the product must work! This many Porsche afficionados surely can't be wrong!

Wow 26 hp that's impressive! it's almost as much as the gains from the entire X51 powerkit or maybe I am missing something...is that 26hp increase measured @ peak hp?

No. Not at peak. It's measured about 5500.
It's about 11.5@ peak.

Thanks for the clarification.

When hp gains stated are not peak could make it a bit misleading...

11.5 hp from this one part is quite good however.

I just had it installed on my 997tt last Friday and drove home in traffic. It rained all weekend and I have only driven the car about 20 miles since the installation. What I have noticed is this --upon install I noticed no difference. Then I was told that it takes some time for the software to adapt and I took a few sprint runs. I did notice a difference . The notice it most in the midrange where I feel an added surge or torque.

As for your car being "slower" ??? I can't see how . What I did feel was that the car seemed more quiet at first . I scratched my head on this as to how that can be .

Does that particular 997s have the full cargraphic exhaust? (headers, cats, mufflers)
