The Car Itch...

Hey guys - curious what your thoughts are on what's been going through my head lately. I currently own a 2005 C2S and it's been nothing but joy since I purchased it a year ago. Prior to the C2S I had a S2000, then two e46 M3s (one stock, one modded). I honestly didn't think I'd ever want to try something different after the C2S, but I have the ITCH!!!

I've been looking at all kinds of cars, more recently the new M3 and the S5. Neither, in my opinion, will be as fun to drive as the C2S, but maybe the difference in driving experience will satisfy my need to try something new. I test drove the new M3 and for some reason the clutch felt AWFUL compared to the C2S....I'm sure that can be changed but couldn't believe how terrible it felt OEM.

Curious if you guys have any recommendations.....or if there is/are a set of mods that will significantly change the C2S experience. My worry is that I'll drop thousands into modding the C2S only to have the itch again in 3 months. I guess you can make that argument for a new car that you get bored of in 3 months.

70K is the top end of my budget....(should be 30k..hahah)

another thought?

your going to loose some $ selling your 997S.... take that money you would have loss plus lets say 15/18K=K and go buy a new Dodge Challenger or Mustang or something.... (under 30K new) should help the itch.... this way you have the stye and grace of your P car and then some new fun american Muscle to toy with!!!! (not saying the challanger or the mustang compare to the 997 in any way, shape or form, just I like a variety!)

My car before my 997 was a s2000, still have it.... fun cars....

how about a late model NSX,,,,, used Aston? Lotus if your not to tall.... late model M5? BMW Aplina B7 series.... or a Nissan GTR? All over with these suggestions as I am not sure the itch you have.....

not sure what your willing to spend on your C2s, but a good set of coil overs and a Supercharger set up will change the feel..... harnessing the feel will be another challange in itself. Then again not many have truly harnessed what the 997 (never mind S) has to offer stock...

Thanks for the input, guys. Yes, I agree....I've probably extracted less than half of what the C2S is capable of and I'm planning on going to a driving school this summer. However, I'm confident it will NOT satsify my 6-12 month itch to change cars. But that's just me....

I looked at the NSX and i don't fit - so no go on the Lotus either. Test drove the new M5 too and didn't think it was worth the cash. The GT-R is something I'm seriously considering, but I hate buying cars new and I'm not sold on the looks.

I bought my C2S used for a great deal, so I'm not too worried about losing too much. But I do like the idea of having a S2000 as a second car. Gotta love that S2K gearbox...still remember how great it was...

No thoughts on the S5?

hmmmm more options

rs4 over s5......IMO, love that car....

get another s2000 and boost it!

older supra or older turbo rx7 as a second fun car?

you can buy a 2+ year old M5 for a great value and the car is a beast, but yes new its quite expensive....

used e55 could treat you right, car is a sleeper.... I love that! Used SL55, nice convert, very different from the C2s but still a beast! Assume your not looking to step that car back in power so my suggestions are at least on track? m6, not a huge fan if the looks but this can is also quite the monster...... Maybe a vette..... ok thats about it, Pick...

I would go GTR.... the whole first year model thing is overdone IMO.... you have an 05 c2s.... I have an 05 997.... first year and no issues...

I would rock an S5 in a heartbeat. Certainly it doesn't have the performance of an RS4 or C2S but it's absolutely stunning inside and out. If you're not going to use the full potential of the C2S it won't be disappointing.

I've been toying with the idea of selling my S4 and S2000 if I can find a GT-R @ MSRP.

Yeah...the S5 looks incredible. Saw two on the road and thought they were R8s at first with the LED fronts. Very tempting. 1 year waiting list at local Barrier though!

I like the GT-R the best, but unsure how quick that thing will depreciate - particularly, given economic conditions. For the record, my problems with new cars is not maintenance, just the ridiculous deprecation in the first 2 years.

lig: I hear Bellevue Nissan has the GT-R at MSRP. $10k deposit, will be in your hands in 3-4 months.

If you were to go to the Porsche Sports Driving School, you would drive a car just like what you now have. You would quickly see that your car is more than capable. Modifying it wouldn't be necessary. The only reason to buy a new car would be if you didn't like the color or options on the C2S you have.

So save your money for driving schools. They are a true investment, not mention a whole lot of fun.

Congrats! I'm very excited for you. It's a little bit of a relief since I love the S4 and the S2000. The S4 makes a great car for business and I'm not sure how it would look to pick up docs in my GT-R. I'd probably have the wifey take the GT-R to work and borrow her FX35 for the day.

Thanks....but I was just joking around (I wish though). For now all money is going towards paying off the p-car and saving for the wedding. I decided to keep the 997 and hold on to it for hopefully a long long time instead of getting an e90/92 M3, 335i, etc and taking a huge hit on depreciation.
