I wouldn't put the deposit if the GT3 is not even confirmed.

A 450hp GT3 would be awesome!

I might be ready for one by then.

Another Thought

I realize we don't want to stand in the way of progress (spelt more power) BUT...
If the S goes to 385hp then the non S/base Carrera's will go to about 355hp, the same as our current S's...that would really suck for the 05-08 S owners that shelled out the extra $$$ for the addtl 30 hp over the base car...and as I mentioned earlier those that spent $16,000.00 more for X51 would probably not be very happy campers either.
I think it would have been a smarter move for Porsche to have increased the S to 370 therefore keeping it under the X51' current output and the non S to 345 keeping it under the current S...
Who knows if the extra 30 proves to be true then maybe it will be the smart move for Porsche as it will **** some of us off enough to want the 30 extra hp with all the other new goodies...I for one would might be crazy enough to swap out my 07S for the new DFI car especially with the new dual clutch gear box (just gotta give it a full production year to get all the kinks out).

I agree with dmoney, the 997 should be 400hp. Its the nature of the game and Porsche should be at the front of the pack. I just traded my 05 for a new 08 and my only regret is not waiting for the HP increase, but we all knew it was coming.

While the larger engine and power is a plus from the standard Carrera ... I believe most people chose the S due to the upgraded parts (Xenon, PASM, Wheels, Brakes, etc).

From Wiki....
"Porsche is expected to debut its next entirely new 911, the Type 998, in 2009. The 998 is rumoured to have an entirely new 3.8 litre or 4.0 litre flat eight engine, still hanging over the rear axle. It is said that the current flat six cannot be bored over 4.0 litres, so Porsche will concentrate on shaving off weight developing a new sequential transmission. The 998 is rumored to have a unit aluminum body (like the Audi A8) and a 7-speed dual clutch sequential transmission. There is also the possibility it might have dual rear-mounted radiators (like Lamborghinis and Ferrari Testarossa) for better weight distribution and to make more efficient use of the rear-mounted longitudinally-aligned flat-6 configuration.

I don't know about that...I think the 30 extra hp was the biggest factor for most to get the S .

But the only people who are bothered by this is the 5% Porsche owners that visit this forum (the enthusiest) the other ones are not that crazy about 20 more HP.
And we all new about it so you cant complain
Normal Porsche owners choose a C2 over the S for the ride quality and the price not really that it has just a little more HP
just my .02

Spoke to the manager of my local Porsche center on Friday...he had been at the factory for a presentation of the new 911.

He had som interesting information regarding the performance.

Non S, 345 hp with the new 7 speed box did 0-100 kmt in 4,8 sec vs 5,0 for the manual.

The S, 385 hp, did it in 4,5 sec...

Versus my tiptronic, that`s seriously fast...
