I agree with your concern and I do know that MB had some initial issues with the 7-spd. Guess we'll just have to wait until there are some "first drives" and by fall we should know whether the new tranny is a go on the order form or not. I am torn between the 6 spd. or a "tip" style auto. I don't know what type trannys the F-1 cars use (DSG or PDK style) but when they rev and shift up or down it is amazing. Clearly faster than a manual.

Is it possible that Porsche is getting conservative with HP #'s now that gas is escalating in cost?
maybe the HP figures will not be as high as originally thought.
Any ideas as to why they may not produce the two mentioned models?

Not a stupid question. I would also like to know if there may be a 'Mark II" 997 GT2 planned. Any inside info, anyone?
Seems to me that the whole 'Mark I' followed by a mid-generation improvment to a 'Mark 2' would tend to **** off a few early adopters...but I'm sure that has been discussed on these forums for some time.
Given Porsche's past timeline, one has to surmise that a 998 GT2, if any, would be introduced around 2014 or 2015.? Fingers-crossed.

But even with that in mind, wouldn't the same apply across the entire range? We even saw the GT3RS being face lifted and tested ( as per leftlane) , so the GT2 would be getting the same LED's and changes too?

Ok - Lets resume what is rumored/known:
350 bhp for Carrera
385 for Carrera s
Both models will be announced in May and production to start after factory's summer vacation (September).
PDK will be offered. (looks like sequential shifter - no flappy paddles)
A red reflector stripe on the rear will return (rumored only for 4S but could be for both).
Head lights will have dynamic cornering lights.
LED rear lights.
GT3 and GT3RS face lift only in 2009.
No Turbo face lift till MY10.
No news on GT2
Thats about all I can remember.
