Rear wing madatory?

OK, So it begins.... Just finalized my payment to suncoast for the GT3 bumper. Is it true that I must have the wings to go with it or else???

Porsche says that dynamics are not solid with only 1/2, but that's at high speeds. If you plan to go over 120 regularly, you'll want some additional rear stability, however, for normal, routine driving, you'll be fine.

the TSB lists permissable combinations for the GT3 kit for the 996 and so think it would for the 997 also.
it states that front bumper and rear wing must be used in combination and that anything else is unacceptable.

how much difference what they say matters to you is a personal call and what type or driving you do.

The front should cause more downward force to the front end. Not a bad thing. The back end has a built in spoiler. I think the warning is for people who want to do the rear wing alone. That would cause rear end down force and without the front bumper the front would raise. That is a bad thing.

Of course I have no data but I cannot imagine that the GT3 front increases lift at the back and even if it reduces lift at the front then the corresponding lift at the back will be much smaller (distance from center of lift at front a few inches from the front of the car to the front axel << distance from front axel to rear axel).

So I would say that at “normal” road speeds probably no issue (the spoiler comes up at 75MPH IIRC) and even on the track (up to around 130MPH) I would not worry. If you are going to run flat out on the salt flats in Utah then you had better get the GT3 anyway!

I have seen a Gt3 bumper with a Techart Type 1 wing . It looks fantastic but I am not one who mixes and matches the aerodynamics .

Remember when the audi TT first came out and they had a significant amount of accidents on the autobahn? Turns out it was because of bad aerodynamic design. Could easily be induced into lift-off oversteer, because the front end had more downforce than the back end. Most of these crashes were high speed, but nowhere near 150 mph. I also wouldn't mix and match aerodynamics.

Try to keep your speeds below 150mph. If you decide to run that fast, keep PSM on!

Thanks rmani! This forum is bad like that... it just tempts you to modify and spend money! Hence, consideration of a new wing

I'm sure there's a reason, I wouldn't chance it though plus the it'll look better with the full kit on.

Like others have said, keep the speed down and you are find. However, I would do the full kit just to make it look "complete".

Aerodynamics take effect a lot sooner than some people think, and it depends on how effect the piece is, etc. Remember, the effects increase at an exponential rate, in relation to speed, etc.

So, you aerodynamic experts out there. Should I go with GT3 wing or TA wings be OK?
