Germany and Nuerburgring
I was recently in Germany and thought that I would share some photo's with everyone. I would have posted more photo's but I am limited to 10 images in a thread, sorry.
I already posted part of this in another thread, here is the link. I saw a new 997 on my way to the Factory Tour.

Traveling on the Autobahn's is a lot different then our local highways. I rented a Cayman S at Frankfurt Airport, picked it up with 975Km (600 miles) on it, nothing over 4000RPM for the first 3000Km (as advised in the Porsche Manual). Well on my trip I found that the engine really needed to get a work out (too much Carbon build up or something!) Here is one photo that I took at about 5000RPM (201Km/hr (120 mph) was fun, I hit 250 (150 mph) a few times, but there was no way in the world that I was taking one hand off the wheel to take the photo)
After the Porsche Factory, I went to The Nuerburgring, what a fun drive. 325 Km (195 miles) of hills, twisty turns, and nice smooth highways. When I arrived, I was about 6 hours too early for the open track session, so I had to wait, so I took the tour, here are the pits workshops.
Pit Row (Bike Testing Day at the Track)
I then drove around the track, many manufactures (GM, Jaguar, Yokohama, etc) had facilities (20000 sq ft buildings) at the track
During my wait, I sat on the stairs of the hotel and watched a German Car Club come for a Track Day, Most of the Cars were Porsche (of course) GT3's (996 and 997), Turbo's, Cayman's and Lots of Carrera's (a row of them arriving)
I even saw a GT2
As well as American and Italian made cars
Finally I made my way to the entrance of NORDSCHLEIFE or North Loop, about 50-60 cars were waiting for the 5:15PM Opening Time
The surrounding area is beautiful, the hills, the valley's, the part of the track, and of course all the cars!
I have a number of other photo's of the cars that were there that day, but nothing of me on the track as Camera's are forbidden. I will say that there is no way any video game can simulate the felling of driving this track in real life, amazing experience that I will never forget.

Why should they have an "American" Porsche Club in Germany ?

Very cool stuff! I'd love to do this within the next year or so.
Couple of questions:
Was the rented Cayman S the car you also drove on the track? If so, did the rental agency know? Did you go with a guide?

The Ring is Public highway, and therefore no issue for the rental car. However I didn't tell Avis that I worked the little Cayman hard!

If the " Ring" is just another Public Highway in Germany , what do their race tracks look like ? Lol
If you had been involved in an accident ,I wonder if the rental car Insurance Company
would have agreed it was a " non issue " ?
When I was there , I had to pay for each lap and they reserved the right to inspect the car
and refuse access if they deemed it unsafe ( tires etc. )
Just because they allow the public access to it on occasion ,
I think it's a bit of a stretch to refer to it as a " public highway "

would have agreed it was a " non issue " ?
When I was there , I had to pay for each lap and they reserved the right to inspect the car
and refuse access if they deemed it unsafe ( tires etc. )

slow down (a bit) for safety reasons. So the Ring is a one way (clockwise) toll highway that happens to be used for racing from time to time. Besides I had no intention of crashing!

I wonder what Avis would had said if you got hit by an overly confident tourist pretending to be Stering Moss ?
All I remember is that I was given written instructions on the "rules of the road" and what to do in case of an accident etc.
It also stated that using a stopwatch was strictly " Verboten " ( I guess you can't go on a joy ride with Sport Chrono equipped Porsches ? )
Among other things I recall , it also stated that you entered at your own risk, since most car Insurance Companies will not cover you while driving on this "public highway"
PS: I plan to go over there in a few weeks ( not the Ring )
Could you please tell me at which Avis you were able to get the Cayman ?
I checked Frankfurt, Munich and Duesseldorf but the girl just laughed when I asked about renting a Porsche .
The best they can do is a lousy Benz . Lol
