Steering Wheel

Im getting a sport steering wheel. Are there any problems swapping out with the standard Triangle airbag? Should fit without any problems right? Are they interchangeable or is some type of adapter required between S and non S models?

I swapped two wheels out, no problems, just don't turn on the power (no keys)

Correct. I swapped my MF triangular wheel for a sport wheel earlier this year on my previous cab. To be safe, I disconnected the battery before disconnecting and reconnecting the airbag connector. And as NorthVan said, don't be doing anything with keys while the bag is disconnected or else you'll get an airbag fault indication. I put masking tape over my ignition as a reminder.

+1 To be safe, I disconnected the battery before disconnecting and reconnecting the airbag connector.

Many car companies have redundant sensors which can fire an airbag even with the battery disconnected. I know Ford has a charged capacitor type device behind the glovebox which must be disconnected even with the battery disconnected.

None of us seem to have had a problem with the Porsche air bags.........yet. Thanks for making me nervous next time I do it.

I had my car in for an oil change at my pvt. mechanic. I asked him to do the swap.
Watching , it was pretty easy. Be careful not to damage the retaining ring. Do not pry with tools. Just pull hard w/ fingers. The most difficult part appeared to be finding the release clip in the back of the steering wheel to drop the air bag.

He did disconnect the battery. The windows had to be reset after reconnecting the battery.

Be sure the wheel is straight before buttoning back together. The splines are small and his first attempt looked straight but was off one spline. Whole deal 15 minutes.

I agree with everything you said here. The hardest part is releasing the center hub. I installed my wheel temporarily and drove the car around the block before tightening down, just to be sure it was centered properly. I've done it 2 or 3 times, but I still treat it carefully, as if it were a time bomb.
