Video of me JUST ABOUT trashing the 911...
Hey guys,
In June of 06, I went to the drags at Bristol, TN with my 911S SC. I ran some good runs, but none felt good. I spun WAY too much. 20" wheels, 500+ HP, and an open diff doesn't mix well. I didn't know I was going when I left the 20s on. I've got other wheels/tires for this kinda stuff.
But one run, the car in front of me in my lane threw a rod. So there was oil everywhere. I sat there for 30 mins or so while they cleaned it up. Finally, they assured me it was clean, so we took off. I spun a TON off the line, and tried to get traction by feathering the pedal... but it didn't help. The car got out of my hands and headed for the wall on the left. Seriously, I was gone for. It was over. I screamed out "Help me Jesus!" and the car somehow righted. I don't think I even ever got the wheel over to full right lock.
I knew I had to shake it off, so I drove slowly down the strip and came back around and got in line. Two or three men from in the tower came down and apologized profusely and asked if I was ok. Jesus is good. If I would have hit the wall because of the oil, I would have had a HARD time doing what He'd have done though! I pretty much told them that, in good spirit though.
This is also on Youtube, I'm told. However, here in Thailand, YouTube doesn't work for some reason. I've only been able to tell people about this, until today, two years later, when a friend of mine sends me an email with this link and a subject of: "Brake is in the Middle".
Be sure to go to 3:20 on the clock. It's a compilation, but this is where I am. OR you can back up a bit from there and see a 944 running as well.

This took place at the Bristol Street Fights at the Bristol, TN NHRA drag strip. I hope you enjoy!

Also, as I said, another friend of mine sent me the link in YouTube, but I can't open it here in Thailand. Here's the link he sent me. Is it the same thing?

Thanks man. It was literally so close that, when I got to the end of the run, I got out of the car to see if I tapped the wall. Twas quite close... No tap.

So great to see a "worst of" reel voluntarily posted once in a while. My accidental humility should be an example to all of you. 13.59? Wonderful. I did have some 12.6s, which still bummed me out a bit.

When EVOMS had the SC on the wesite, they were claiming 997s running in the 11's. I thought they had a video & time slips proving it. Realistic or not?

It's not in that one. Not that you can tell in that one, check the other one... but that would be any one of three runs where I just COULD NOT get the car to go into third gear.
Transmission, not coincidentally, is actually out of the car again right now.

I think they're realistic. I was running 12.6-12.8s when I could get 3rd. I was on 20s, and we didn't have the tuning correct for my humidity. I was one of the first in a 997s (one of the first 10, I think I was told), but the first to be in the South... a humid environment. Now, I've got 2 years of tracking this car under my belt, but haven't been back to the drag. I think that the average sc'd S car CAN get into the 11s, but NOT without a limited slip. That's my guess.
