Question Oil Type: Mobil 1?

I have 845 miles on the odometer and it looks like I have used 1/2 quart of oil.

I guess that is not unusual for a new 911.

Is Mobil 1 0W-40 the correct oil to use?

Then get out and drive your car, it is made to be driven. I put 500 miles on it mine in 2 days driving to and from as well as on the track.

Use your car for what is was made for, driving (and hard when you get a chance)

Are you sure? I have nearly 3 months on my new 997S and 4400 miles including 2 track days..................yet to use the least bit of oil.

Make sure you are on level ground when checking your guage.

I take two trips to "nowhere" each day, in order to quickly finish the break-in period.

Each time before I drive it, I always check the oil level gauge. The car is parked inside my garage [level floor].

The oil level was always between the two arrows [three white bars]. Last night, it was only showing two white bars [one white bar = 1/2 quart of oil].

My '88.5 944 Turbo S, used about 1/2 - 1 quart of oil during its' break-in period.

I just checked it now [approximately the 31st time since 6/13/08] and it's reading three white bars [full].

"I wonder why" other cars still use a dip stick?

Thanks for the replies!

I have had 2 997S cars and I do around 3-4 track days at most per oil change and around 1000 miles a month. So I will put say 4 track days and 3,000 miles on the car before my oil change and never have to add a drop. I have no idea how everyone is burning so much oil.

How did you all do your break in?

4000 miles and 4 track days since the last oil chnage, I have added half a bottle and it seems to be unchanged in the last 6 weeks.

Or if he hasn't looked at his engine yet (I love looking at the engine) - there's a big Mobil 1 label inside - take a peek.

My mechanic mentioned maybe changing brands soon. Something about Mobil changing the formulation or something? Didn't get the whole story.
