On the 05 models, the cubholders were silver to match trim. For some reason they went to black in 06. I seldom use mine so wouldn't go to the trouble to have them painted.

My 2006 997S cupholders are painted in silver/aluminum-look paint. My sister's cup holders in the 07 Cayman are black plastic.

Let me be clear, I'm not talking about the actual cupholders, I'm talking about the silver trim in the middle of the dash that houses the cupholders. I want to remove them and send to bumperplugs to get painted. I know many have done this, but wanted to see how they removed.

Mine is painted Red by a local bodyshop. I have no idea on how they were removed though.

Thanks, Larry.

How about this one:

How do you remove the other 2 silver pieces on the middle of the dash as well as the vents?

Sorry, can't help you there! I only go up to Glove box and PCM removal.
Good luck!

Removing the cupholder trim is easy. The problem is removing the two other pieces from the trip strip that are next to the steering wheel. They clip on and need to be removed very gingerly or can break. Eric at bumperplugs can paint them. Think it costs $200ish.

If you look inside the vents, you will see some little metal clips sticking out with small holes at the ends. You stick a very small screwdriver in the hole and pull the clips in (toward the center of the vent). Then the vents just pull out; it takes a bit of working back and forth but that's it. Once they are out some of them have wires attached but they can be unplugged.
Hope that helps.
